This fight is very likely to happen as Joshua is Usyk's prime target. I don't envisage Usyk losing before then and both are matchroom fighters. What way do you see it going? I think Usyk wins every round until Joshua catches him and decapitates him. I saw Usyk look hurt v Gassiev. I just don't think he could live with a full blown punch from AJ. An interesting fight all the same and one I would look forward to.
Yeah maybe what you said - wins every round till he gets decapitated... tbh AJ has great counter punching and combinations from different angles. Usyk has phenomenal head movement but it's typically against, predictable one dimensional fighters who don't throw good combinations... AJ will test that head movement imo.. with uppercuts, hooks and crosses from good angles.
Maybe similar styles match up... but heavy weight fights can seldom be compared to non heavy weight fights... The next punch can always be a game changer... the amount of power generated by someone like AJ the human body can only take so much physically with those types of forces/big guys. It's like how much can the density of human bones withstand if you keep increasing the size of a human being...
Pretty much how I see it. Interesting you say that about Gassiev because he definitely was hurt. The one time Gassiev landed he was rocked. Done tremendously to cling on and see the round out and then was full steam ahead again by the next bell. But these are the reasons I give Tony a chance.
Will Usyk fight Joshua straight after Bellew? Or will Usyk take a heavy weight tune up first? And if so.. who at heavy weight??? He does has that wildcard to make him mandatory for Joshua at heavy weight. But to not waste time, he should make a challenging tune up before Joshua, I reckon: Chisora/Parker/Povetkin... maybe Whyte?
He would be giving up 30 pounds, huge reach disadvantage and isn't a powerful hitter. Skill can only take you so far in the era of super heavyweights.
I don't give him much of a chance tbh. These super heavies are a different breed in comparison. There's a reason there's weight divisions in boxing. A very good little man can beat an average big man. But it gets harder when the average big man isn't exactly average. Right off the bat the little guy that's giving up the weight/height/reach advantage needs to work harder...the stamina usually depletes a lot quicker than if their fighting a guy their own size. Look at David Haye. On paper....he really was a threat to klitchko. Fast guy with fast hands....who could hit hard....up against klitchko,s dodgy mandible. In the end he didn't really get a look in. Was pushed to the ground more times than he landed a good punch. What didn't help as well as Hayes height/weight/reach disadvantages was also klitchko,s very very good control of distance. Joshua's not as good at controlling the distance. But then insert his very very good power in there instead. Immediately becomes a big mountain for usyk to climb. Usyk will hold his own. But it,ll be a struggle to stay in there for the 12. If he does it,ll probably come at the expense of his own offence being nullified. A bit like haye really.
He's said he'll have one fight at heavyweight before AJ. I can see Whyte getting that fight. Again, he'll be boxed around but could test Usyk's chin which will be interesting.
Usyk will knock out Joshua. If you think Joshua will easily land on a guy like Usyk you are delusional. Joshua won’t be able to come forward against Usyk because he doesn’t have the head movement and lateral movement and angles required. If Joshua did try that he would get lit up. The only risk to Usyk there is being completely jobbed on the cards which is the likelihood if he boxes for points because Joshua gets gifted cards at home.
Once Usyk has stopped Bellew he will have to beat all of the matchroom roster at heavyweight before he gets anywhere near AJ. Usyk v Whyte, then Usyk v Whyte 2, then Usyk v Whyte 3.....you get the picture.
Has fought as big guys in the amateurs and schooled them. He will run rings around Joshua. I was thinking part of the matchroom plan in signing him was to keep him at arms length or try to eliminate him before he gets to Joshua. Like they did with Ortiz. Joshua has a mandatory and also will get an exception for a unification so not expecting this to happen until 2020.
