beating a 42 year old ex champ used to be the benchmark for new contenders and solid prospects. Now apparently it ranks as a great win for a champion. go figure the falling standards.
Whyte Is shyte, Breazeale has potential but he's still not proven Who are these fighters that have landed regularly on Usyk with right hands? Usyk would be bringing a whole different level to AJ than the awful Whyte, Breazeale and Takam.
Agreed he was moved along at a fast rate. He fought Skelton in his 7th fight. When in comparison Pianeta fought him in his 20th, Rogan in his 12th, Price in his 15th, only Pulev fought Skelton earlier in his career. Joshua fought Airich in his 8th fight, while Charr fought him in his 23rd fight, Glazkov in his 13th, Solis in his 19th, Ustinov in his 34th. Joshua fought Bahktov in his 9th fight, while Charr fought him in his 26th fight, Gjergjai in his 28th fight, Wawrzyk in his 26th fight. Kevin Johnson was AJ's 13th fight, while he was Charr's 27th fight, Tyson Fury's 20th fight, Pulev's 26th fight. Breazeale was Joshua's 17th fight, while he was Mansour's 25th fight, Ugonoh's 18th which we all know came too soon for Ugonoh and Molina's 31st. Molina was Joshua's 18th fight, while he was Arreola's 36th, Wilder's 34th. Wlad was Joshua's 19th fight, while he was Fury's 25th, Jennings 20th, Pulev's 21st, Povetkin's 27th, Pianeta's 29th, Wach's 28th, Haye's 27th etc. And finally Takam was only Joshua's 20th fight but it was Povetkin's 29th, Perez's 21st and only Takam fought him sooner in his 19th and many said then he was being thrown in too soon and too deep. So anyone saying his resume sucks apart from Wlad is clearly biased. Joshua hasn't even been a pro 4 years yet and only had 20 fights. Not many fighters have had a resume as good after only 20 fights.
WK lost his 25th fight to Ross Purrity. He was 40 fights into his career when he lost and ran from the rematch against Corrie Sanders.. 40 fights ..
If there's one thing you can't knock Joshua for, it's the standard of his first 20 opponents. You can't blame AJ for the lack of depth in the heavyweight division - any arguments fall down immediately when you try and suggest who he should have fought instead. Kevin Johnson in his 13th fight, a guy who has never been knocked out before or since (and fought Pulev since). Dillian Whyte who hasn't lost before or since (fought Chisora since). Breazeale who hasn't lost before or since. AJ was not the finished article here, he still isn't. And now he has made it clear he wants unifications in 2018 with the Parker deal close to being finalised. He's also made it clear he wants to fight Tyson Fury. There is no earthly reason to doubt him. You can knock him for the underwhelming PPVs, the association with Stubhub, his twitter comments, his past, his lifestyle, his physique, you can resent his cash or good looks ... anything like this you want (although why you'd want to I don't know). But it's just plain dumb to knock who he has fought so far..
AJ resume is fine for someone with 20 fights. Wlad - his best opponent by far, though 41, a former champion, with one of the longest unbeaten runs in HW history, 19 wins in title fights in a row Takam - 2nd best opponent, solid top-10 contender Breaseale and Whyte - low skill level, but tough fringe contenders And lots of jorneymen and former fringe contenders (Sprott, Skelton, Kevin Johnson etc)
AJ is well known and has been sold as this next mike tyson level great to the British and somewhat world media. Perhaps he won't turn out to be that, but compared to the rest of the fighters out there atm he is by far the greatest imo, based on what he had achieved to date. Maybe he has shown a few flaws, and fought wk aged 42, but he was only early in his career dont forget, and he has dispatched of all his opponents with a 100% ko success rate. The problem I think people have on this forum is that people like to rave about boxers who are unknown to this wider casual fan, such as usyk and want to be able to say I saw him first etc etc. People are bitter that AJ has had this success and reputation without having to beat a prime tyson prime Ali and prime klitschko to gain it and for whatever reason are all praying for the day he gets a loss so they can say that all along they knew he was bad and he has a weak chin etc etc. I used to tell all my casual mates every time we watched a joshua fight when they were saying how great he was, without a clue about boxing, that he would lose to wilder (who they were unaware of), and then I'd show a highlight reel of his kos and it'd make me look knowledgeable as they were unaware of him. However, I think people deep down know wilder is nothing on AJ, he's just an average fighter with a powerful wild swing punch and a better chance than most of knocking out joshua if the fight ever happens. I think It's very easy to just disregard all his opponents as bad or past it or useless compared to previous eras but dont forget the money wilder (a world title holder with double the pro fights of AJ) turned down to fight fraud whyte and I've also seen people suggest a wilder breazeale fight? A guy who's already got a ko loss to AJ. Finally it's just his luck that AJ is good looking, popular, shredded and a good boxer. However, he is also fortunate to have a promoter who makes him a far superior amount of money to all the other boxers in the division. However, this is not his fault but just good fortune and some excellent promotional work from Eddie Hearn and matchroom. I feel people feel the need to put him down through jealousy and are all just waiting for the day things go wrong for him and he loses.
bumping this thread I made awhile back. interesting turn of events to Foreman and Wilder. Foreman lost in his 41st fight and so did Wilder UNOFFICIALLY. I'm putting him on the hit list anyway even with a draw as I said if he clearly lost I would!
