Would be a slight step up. Meehan a big guy coming off stoppage wins vs Sprott, Cameron. Has a minor title. Or Browne for the C'wealth musnt be far off. Cant see anyone interested in johnson
Not sh*t Sherlock....... Meehan is 44 years old, and Joshua is one of the most promising young talents in the HW division.
Meehan vs. Tua seems most likely, couple of old guys fighting in their home country getting a nice payday. I don't think either one of these guys would really fight out of country anymore, but you never know.
It's a nice little novelty fight... Two guys that are old but game, just not quite at world level anymore. I hope it gets booked, maybe a tune up for Tua first though??? :think
Meehan would be a fight that many top 15 contenders would prefer to avoid. too big a risk and nothing to gain. Meehan would have to target somebody and just call them out week after week to gauge interest from the public.
Who would you have in mind for a warm-up? NZ press seems to think that the Meehan-Tua fight was close to a done deal if Meehan beat Cameron. I don't think he'll mess with Browne at this point of his career.
I would seriously doubt the fight with tua will go through. Meehan himself pretty much said that it won't too.
He has a fair bit of respect for Tua and would of liked to of fought him in his prime but not now...also said Tua should be commended for his role in NZ boxing. Can't see the fight happening unless alot of money gets thrown around. Shannon Briggs name has been thrown up a few times as a possible oppenent for Kali meehan !!!!
Even though Kevin Johnson is the worlds most boring fighter, hes actually a better opponent for Joshua. He knows how to not take punishment and to last. Joshua needs someone who can take him a few rounds.
Johnson is now like a Brit hw right of passage, his passive style perfect to fluff up the record of a prospect like Joshua. We won't be seeing Joshua vs the likes Ortiz, Teper, Ruiz Jnr, Arreola ... but the division is as weak as tap water they tell us.
Dude, Tua is retired. He even said he is no longer fighting on Live TV after the Ustinov fight. He even said he is never coming back to boxing. I talked to Tua in person when he was in Christchurch for a fundraiser not long ago. He has blown up in weight massively and told me he had no intention of fighting again. He has other things on his plate now. He trains youngsters from the South of Auckland to keep them off the streets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHROvRH9GaE
