The WBA have further delayed their ruling on whether to sanction Joshua vs Klitschko and the reason given is "legal matters".

It seems these 'legal matters' have as much to do with Lucas Browne as anyone.

In resolving the legal action Browne took against the WBA over his drug suspension, the WBA made some promises to Browne. Among them that next up he would fight Oquendo for the WBA regular title.

Oquendo and the WBA regular title have barely been mentioned since.

I get the distinct impression appeasing Lucas Browne is at the forefront of the WBA deciding whether or not to sanction Joshua vs Klitschko.

They can still sanction Joshua v Klitschko for the Super Belt.

Browne has said in interviews he's going for the regular belt.

Reasonable answer. But just a little too simplistic IMO.

God knows why they haven't decided yet. They said Thursday they'd have a decision, then delayed that to Friday and now still nothing. I hope the delay is a good sign, if they were more inclined to say no the Wlad/Joshua I think they already would have done.

I think they really want a piece of Wlad/Joshua and the huge sanctioning fee that will bring and so are trying to come to some kind of arrangement with Browne. Maybe Browne will need to be paid step aside money or promised a lucrative shot at the winner or maybe both.

No one wants that many belts.

They brought this mess on themselves by allowing title fights to take place in a personal feifdom pseudo country.

It's just been reported Browne wants more money than Klitschko is offering.

At this stage it wouldn't suprise me if no WBA title is on the line in any fight by December 10th, and this whole saga goes into next year.

Joshua will be looking at either Price or Molina looking at the IBF rankings. Although perhaps they can stump up the offer for Hughie Fury and do some sort of British Heavyweight triple header with Whyte v Chisora, Price v Allen or something along those lines.

    The WBA do.

    More belts, more sanctioning fees.

WBA president Gilberto Mendoza Jr. said on Thursday night the initial delay was due to :

"too many legal matters to consider related to the settlement agreement with Lucas Browne."

I dare say the subsequent and further delay is for the same reason.

    Logical. But again too simplistic.

The elephant in the room is the deal the WBA have already struck with Lucas Browne.

Still disappointing Klitschko won't just fight Joshua for the IBF.

I can see this WBA saga running on until there is no time to promote fights for anybody and after christmas, with little in the way of live boxing shown (and the fighters wanting to take christmas off), the belts will end up being vacant until like April

That's possible. But I think unlikely.

Why? Because in that scenario nobody makes any money, and everyone involved here has one common trait - they all love money!

But they all like maximising income. By fighting on December 10th it might not happen, given promotional time and annual budgets and what not.
