He added a little more context here: http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-40018851-4 " the fight was competing directly with the men’s college basketball Final Four. However, the prime time replay averaged 430,000 viewers (peaking at 483,000), for a combined average of 776,000 viewers on fight day. The live broadcast improved upon Showtime’s viewership for Joshua’s previous fight, a 10th-round knockout of Carlos Takam on Oct. 28, which averaged 334,000 for the live airing and 309,000 for the prime time replay."
Is that good or bad? Is it good or bad considering the time it was on, the fact there was not an American involved and what ever other major sports it was competing against?
It was OK for the time it was on. Wlad-Joshua did 659,000 live on SHO. I wonder just how much does SHO cough up for Joshua and how much do they promote his fights.
AJ is popular in the UK, a mega star even...he's no more or less popular than Wilder in the United States. Being huge in the UK is great and I respect that, but the potential to generate "super fight" money isn't there (UK). It's a weird situation, but if AJ wants to stay home and fight at home, he's earned that.
Meh selling out 50,000 stadiums making a MINIMUM £5m+ for ANY bum he fights +sponsors money easy work. He would need to start re-branding himself as a bad man sex offender who beats his wife to make the big $$$. Would lose guaranteed millions in sponsors in taking that risk though. Not worth building such a facade and character when it's doubtful he will have the time in the sport that Floyd had..or even Wladamir had to forge himself that way.
Im wondering that, im wondering how much he is worth to them. Dont get me wrong, im a big fan, but i dont see how he is ever going to be a massive star out there. He can do ok i think but Americans just dont take to foreigners unless they are really something special and some people may be under the illusion Joshua is but he isnt and Americans will see that, if they havnt already.
Probably 700k-800k Joshua v Vlad did 1 mil buys but that was a much bigger fight. That fight also did 659k on showtime
Not a big shocker. Joshua is almost a demigod in the U.K., but outside the U.K. he isn't much of a draw. It seems like Joshua has peaked. The only fights in the UK. That would allow Joshua to match or beat his are Tyson Fury if he ever starts fighting against or David Haye unless he gets stopped by Bellew again. He should definitely fight Wilder in the US to build up his international profile. Parker has fought in the U.K. twice against both Hughie Fury and Joshua and Wilder fought in the U.K.against Harrison.
