    True, but no one did.

AJ won the belt in the ring from the Champion (and Walking God) Charles Martin though !

Im picking AJ. Its 70/30 for me.
I do give parker more than a punchers chance. He has some attributes in his favour but AJ has the same attributes and some more.
I do agree with an earlier poster in that it would make good tactics for parker to put the foot down early doors. This is the time aj will be at his most cautious and hasnt got his eye in.

Thanks a lot mate, I’m no retired boxer or pundit but I like to give my opinion on what I see and like to think I have some what of a grasp on boxing, maybe people will disagree with my evaluation and that’s fine it’s open for discussion, but some people just talk absolute bollocks so it’s nice when people recognise and can have a civil debate on these things, this forum for the most part has some great discussions, back and forths and I really enjoy it....for the most part

I agree with many of your points, but that was without a doubt an unreasonable stoppage. The very epitome of a British stoppage. Actually, I just watched it back after typing that last sentence and I'm going to upgrade (downgrade?) it to a terrible stoppage. Takam had a good round in the 9th and was doing well in the 10th. He was still able to defend himself, he was on steady legs and like what, maybe a couple of punches landed? He didn't even look the more tired of the two. The Dr didn't ask for the fight to be stopped on account of his eye so that's pretty much a redundant point. It's academical as I don't see that AJ would have tired enough additionally for Takam to get a stoppage and he was rightly way ahead on the cards anyway but it isn't a good look for officiating in Britain. If you think that stoppage was fair game then surely you think the ref should have stepped in when AJ fought Wlad in the 6th?

By the by, I think Kelly-Molina is going to end in the same way. Although he's also probably shot enough for a legit stoppage

Listen mate I take your opinion board that’s no problem, I was simply giving my view on why i don’t think it was an early stoppage, you make some good points I will say but as much as you say it was a horrible stoppage I will counter with Takam wasn’t offering anything remotely near enough to keep him in the fight, what point I’m trying to make is from what I saw Joshua’s shots landed and troubled Takam enough to make him stumble back twice before the fight was stopped, now if you look at it from the refs viewpoint he’s had to go to the doc twice, Takam himself stopped because of the cut, taking all that into consideration and the shots landed the ref has all the power to end a bout, with the view that he wasn’t throwing that much back for it to make sense to let the fight continue when seconds earlier josh was landing big shots that troubled Takam, in spite of that that’s why I believe the referee ended the fight, everything considered before hand and what was in front of him he felt he had to stop it, again we can debate that and I totally accept your view, I’m not trying to best anyone here pal I’m just trying to make a strong case for it wasn’t an early stoppage because a lot of people seem to think it was too early, appreciate your opposing view it’s what makes it interesting. Cheers fella

Parker needs to be in his best form to win this
The Parker of the Ruiz, Cojanu and H.Fury fights would struggle to get enough done to win it. Even if his chin held up he'd be outworked.

I think we'll see an improved Parker though. He'll rise to the challenge here.

Agree with this. Takam took a good bit of punishment all throughout the fight. We now know that these are the damaging fights more so than the quick knockouts. Not a big believer that an opponent needs to be staggering about for the ref to stop it. Good stoppage for me. You can't allow someone to take a beating round after round after round.

We don't want people to be in a position where they could die to win a boxing match. I think it did favor Joshua in that they don't want him being overly risked ..but overall it was the right thing to do. Good stoppage. Takam took too much punishment if you look at the fight in its entirety.

Think the difference between takam v Joshua and wlad v Joshua for me anyway is we,re seeing a pattern in boxing related injuries. Appears to be accumulation that's causing most of the problems as opposed to guys fighting through a bad few rounds. Joshua didn't really take much before it all kicked off in the fifth. Whereas takam took solid shots from the first round by the time you get to the tenth/eleventh round that's a lot of punches to take. Especially when he doesnt really have the firepower to turn it round with one punch himself. Much smaller man etc.

For me you,ve got to let a man try to fight his way out of trouble. That's when the British stoppages bug me the most. But if guys are taking heavy shots round after round and are clearly outgunned...I m all for them tbh. Takam v joshua was a bit too similar to eubank v Blackwell. And groves v gunecht for me.

100% Exactly, it’s not even the seconds before the stoppage, it’s the entirety of the bout, Joshua jabbed his face off, he absolutely busted his eye from early rounds until it was stopped, and Takam was getting plaudits for the amount of damage he took but still wanted to be in there with AJ but it isn’t Takams decision, and that’s the thing if he wanted to stay in there he should’ve been more active throwing and landing shots, you can’t just take a beating, roll your shoulders, tell AJ to bring it on and then continue to take punishment and your eye be giving you problems and then complain when the ref stops it after you got wobbled numerous times. At that point it’s like unnecessary to take any more punishment. I agree with you totally pal.

I see the angle you're using and it has its merit. But Takam was throwing plenty enough in the 10th, I thought. He wasn't running away or hanging on for dear life. His hands were up and he was willing to fight. He backed up on one of AJ's shots and then AJ followed up, but his follow up shots missed and then the ref jumped in. Sure, the ref might be justified in his thoughts there but I can only judge it from an observational perspective. He did indeed go to the Dr twice but he was cleared both times. We disagree at the crux of the issue; I think the ref was looking to end it at the earliest opportunity and you feel he was was protecting Takam. I mean, to my mind the ref has to step in when the fighter is unable to protect himself which Takam was able to do. He'd have lost anyway and the argument that someone taking too much punishment should be taken out is an accurate one, but this wasn't exactly like the 12th round of Kovalev-Hopkins, which ought to have been stopped. Also FWIW I don't think the ref should have jumped in during the 6th of AJ-Wlad, that was just an example.

Thank you for responding without calling me a massive bender.

In principle, I agree but in actuality I think you're way off the mark. Blackwell was being teed off of a lot and looked tired plus pretty hurt. Takam was rolling pretty OK. Eubank Jr was getting better as the fight went on whereas I thought the 9th was probably Takam's best round, so I'm not sure they're totally comparable in reality.

As stated above, I don't think either fight should have been stopped (Wlad-AJ or AJ-Takam)

Fair enough mate we all see it differently. For me tho you,ve got to take into account how hard Joshua hits. Its not a good enough gameplan to come in hoping he,ll tyre out through punching you in the face. If that's your gameplan and you actually do get punched in the face so many times you can't really complain when the ref stops you.

Can see it from two points of view...the refs gonna give Joshua benefits that other boxers probably wouldn't get. But we still need to take into account Joshua hits hard. People on here say eubanks not a power puncher. No ones saying that about Joshua tho. Because hes a strong hurtful puncher. If your taking them all fight...surely its as bad as eubank teeing off on you. Blackwell stayed in that fight as did gunecht. Eubank did tee off on him but people are claiming hes not a big puncher. No ones saying Joshua's anything but a big puncher.

You can't afford to take them big punches continually and not expect a ref to stop it. Takam looked like he,d maybe seen enough from early. Dug in and seen it through but how much is enough till we call it off really. The stoppage wasn't really at a part of the fight where takam was taking a bad beating. But good refereeing for me. Taking the whole fight and the two opponents into account. One was totally outgunned. Outsized. Outpunched. With average power. Already took a beating round after round.

Call it a day for me. Its a boxing match. Not a let's risk a mans health to see if he can shut matchroom/joshua up match.

If you look at the research and cases where not just boxers, but athletes in general who take part in

Hey listen pal, it’s all respective of our own perspective so I appreciate and understand your view 100% I just think there’s certain aspects that we disagree on and that’s totally fine. One way or another AJ got the win and it’s all retrospective anyway now and like I said I never meant to try and best anyone I just wanted to put forward a case of how I thought it wasn’t premature. If two people can’t have opposing views and discuss on civil terms then something is wrong and you know what I love Boxing, that’s why I like to talk about it and hear other people’s perspective that’s half the fun of it. Thanks for sticking to your points but also respecting mine and appreciating I have some substance to what I’m saying.

Ah but Eddie G and Blackwell were not at the same level as the guys they were fighting. I was at the Gutknecht (spelling...) fight and everyone around me agreed that should have been called off around the 10th. He was taking a lot of punishment and wasn't in it. The Blackwell stoppage was bang on. Still unfortunate that he had outcome that he did but at times it is unavoidable.

Perhaps I'm reading the fight differently to you guys but like I said I thought Takam was enjoying his best success at the stage of the stoppage (or slightly before it at least), which makes it a little different for me. He wasn't looking for a way out, he wasn't gassed and he wasn't stumbling around everywhere. It doesn't matter too much anyway as AJ was the rightful winner
