Pulev is a underrated fighter and a legit top 10 fighter. Pulev beat Hughie easier than Povetkin and Parker did and Pulev beat Chisora comfortably too (the Judges score card should have been wider). As other posters have pointed out though, stylistically he suits AJ. AJ to win by KO before round 8.
Yeah, style wise this suits AJ to a T. Pulev is 38 now and past prime. He looked pretty garbage in his last fight as well. Was a decent enough fight when first planned but it's pretty meh now. But it is a mandatory so, it is what it is.
This. If Fury and Wilder aren’t available what do people want Joshua to do? The top ten in the last few years has consistently featured Povetkin, Parker and Whyte (he’s beaten them all), featured Ruiz after he lost to him (now avenged), Pulev and Miller (signed to fight both, both pulled out.) It’s not like he’s genuinely just thinking ‘time for a break - I’ll fight a David Price.’
No one can argue that Pulev is not a genuine contender. Okay, not many will pick him to do Joshua, but he's a genuine top-level guy, with some very good wins. I don't think he's a better boxer than Ortiz, but he should certainly be ranked higher than him even before the Wilder rematch.
Who are Pulev's "very good" wins against? I'd say Chisora is his best win. Not sure it falls into the category of "very good". Who else?
Chisora is a very good win, plus the nature of it. Dominant. Takes a good fighter to do that to Chisora. Whyte wasn’t as impressive, arguably lost the first fight and was losing the second but for the late KO.
I guess it is what is, a mandatory defence. Pulev has decent basics but is upright and has feet of concrete. Easy one for AJ really and he'll look good getting Pulev out of there.
Pulev beat Hughie and Chisora more convincingly that Parker beat Hughie and Whyte beat Chisora. We had no problem with Joshua fighting Parker or Whyte so I don’t see the problem here. If your criteria for who Joshua should fight next is someone he hasn’t already beaten and isn’t Wilder or Fury on the basis that they’re unavailable, then you’re limited to Pulev, Ortiz, Hunter, Kownacki. All much of a muchness. Usyk might very well be the best option but you can’t really argue with Pulev on the basis that he’s probably second best and a mandatory. I’d love to seen some of you comment on Lewis during the 90’s/00’s. Briggs: bum Tua: bum Grant: bum Rahman: bum Mavrovic: bum Golota: bum Morrison: bum Mercer: bum That genuinely feels how some of you would have been.
It’s gonna get really interesting when AJ has to defend against usyk as said before by Hearn why they didn’t pick hunter ‘we don’t want a mover’
He has just faced the fattest pudding in the division twice and needs to get in there now with the best in the division.
