Not a very good comparison. Ruiz dropped out of the Ring top ten heavyweights in 2007, having been ranked tenth in 2006. Haye finally caught up with him in 2010 after he’d completely fallen to bits after back to back losses against Valuev (again) and Chagaev.

So if Pulev had faced, say, Whyte and Parker, and lost to both, and Joshua was fighting him now, then that would be a fair comparison. But that hasn’t happened.

So being under 30 is a yardstick you’re using for quality? If so, who do you want Joshua to fight? Higher rated guy on Boxrec at the minute is a 27 year old Joseph Parker.

Haha, Jurgen you kill me! I get what you're saying but Ruiz jnr was the baddest man on the planet for a while, talk of a granite skull, fastest hands in the division, never lost to Parker etc. AJ had to face him a second time to rectify the mess of the first fight. Getting Pulev out of the way gets him out of the equation because if AJ doesn't fight him either Fury or Wilder would have to and that would delay things further. Whilst those two probably spend the next two or three months f**king about trying to book a date AJ can take care of business with Pulev because there's little else available for him at the moment, the Usyk fight would never happen this quickly. The crucial thing is how Tyson Fury acts after he fights Wilder, presuming it actually happens, that fight is holding up things in the division massively.

Pulev fought two fights to become IBF mandatory. First he beat Chisora in a fight which was IBF Heavyweight Eliminator for #2-ranking, then IBF ordered a final eliminator, which was Pulev - Breazeale and Breazeale pulled out, then IBF ordered Pulev-Whyte, Team Pulev won purse bids and Whyte pulled out, then IBF ordered Pulev - Miller and Miller pulled out, so next in line was Hughie Fury who accepted the fight.

But Lewis had a wide selection of younger opponents to choose from. Joshua doesn’t.

Pulev might be old but he’s younger than Povetkin and Ortiz. Indeed, sticking with Boxrec as a yardstick, the youngest guy in the top ten is Joshua himself, next youngest is Ruiz who he’s just beaten, and after him bar Fury it’s Whyte, who he’s also beaten!

Yeah, that’s true. I’ll correct the post.

Still though, hard to suggest he’s just going after old guys. He also signed to fight Miller who was a Ring/Boxrec top ten ranked fighter and one of the youngest if not the youngest of those.

I would rather watch a Polar Bear starve than watch that ogre face AJ.

Why shouldn’t Pulev be a mandatory?

Well, he won a final eliminator for the IBF title and hasn’t lost since.

It just goes to show the difference between AJ's and Wilder resume when numerous people are dissappinted by this fight yet Pulev has a better resume than anyone that Wilder has beaten.

That’s not the question. Nothing really. But it was an eliminator and Pulev won it. It can’t be any shock to you that comfortably beating the likes of Hughie Fury and Dereck Chisora can lead you into a position whereby you might be in a title eliminator. Also, don’t forget Hughie was a replacement after Breazeale dropped on.

Genuinely not sure what your issue is here. It’s fine to say Pulev is old, will almost certainly get beat and so on. But it’s not like there’s a queue of better names.

There is no objective criteria and that is why we have the likes of Pudding Stiverne getting 2 cracks at Wilder etc.

Anthony Fury-Klitschko stated publicly that it is abount the undisputed title and not the money then he refuses to fight Wilder ......... due to splits of money. Can understand if he was skint but he could wipe his arris with £100 notes for the rest of his life.

The money more important to these Pudding bashers than sporting glory and legacy.

Indeed. Pulev would be Wilder’s second best win, possibly even his best. Would clearly be Fury’s second best.

Would be Wilder's best win, Pulev record is better than Ortiz.
