No idea why, it was pretty tame stuff if I remember and a good thread. Bizarre.

Hearn hit the sweet spot with the Whyte fight. Can just about get away with conning people on PPV with relatively little chance of an upset and a rematch in the bank if it did happen. The Whyte fight would have been similar to the Helenius fight with the exception of a point deduction for Whyte for hitting after the bell or something.

The Saudis will need to bring some serious bucks to the table to convince Hearn not to keep milking Joshua in rubbish fights. I reckon we'll get one more regardless.

    That pisses me off.
How come only Usyk has to fight mandatories whilst the others duck and hide from any threats.

I've heard Warren a few times saying very matter of fact that Usyk has to fight Dubois next as mandatory then Joyce will have his mandatory shot after that.
All the while his tough, fighting man, lineal champion... is fighting a UFC guy

Joyce has lost his mandatory shot as it stands. Pretty sure IBF (Hrgovic) is next in line too?

I really like Joyce and hope he gets a shot at the title but if this is the case I'm glad it's out of warrens hands.

It is shocking that since Wilder 3 two years ago, he has faced zero threat Whye (although mandatory so no choice), zero threat Chisora and now a cartoon exhibition.

    Farcical

I'd guess because Usyk has multiple belts, therefore multiple sanctioning bodies mandatories to deal with.

Fury only has to persuade the WBC. Other bodies aren't so easy to deal with - e.g. the IBF stripped Fury a few days after the Klitschko win because of the rematch clause preventing him facing their mandatory. The WBO reserve right to strip the titleholder after 9 months (iirc they stripped Andrade for this reason a while ago).

It doesn't help that WBC are as crooked as they come

The fact they aren't forcing another mandatory because Wilder and Ruiz have other ideas than an eliminator, is madness. Next in line after that is AJ and I'm sure as hell the WBC would do well if that fight happened.

Hearn said the other week his plan for AJ was Wilder then Fury, which could feasibly work for the WBC if they treated AJ-Wilder as a sort of eliminator. It kind of cuts Usyk out of the picture though, I'm not sure he will ever get undisputed.

If he beats Zhang in rematch then Presumably he will get a shot as he was the mandatory prior to that defeat?

Not that I do see him winning unfortunately. Think Zhang has his number and he's too long in the tooth to make the necessary adjustments.

Yes I can't see him winning the rematch either. Think Zhang has his number 9 times out of 10.

Whilst I admire Joyce for taking the first fight I think his management shouldn't have let it happen.
It was a big risk v little reward and has cost him his mandatory spot

He's a walking example of why fighters don't take risky fights when they have a mandatory position.

I've said it before but this is where fans don't help in my view. We moan that fighters don't ever take any risks and sit on their positions but when a fighter like Joyce does and loses he gets written off, called a hypejob etc. If you were another fighter looking at that then why would you take an unnecessary risk?

Joe did brilliantly to earn his mandatory shot and should be applauded for taking on such a risky fight which the fans wanted to see.

Imagine how bad the HW decision would have been this year without that bout...

Exactly, I hate all the heavyweights avoiding each other but that fight was a terrible career move for Joyce.

Almost as bad as Whyte turning down a massive payday to fight AJ years ago. That would have set him up for life

Valid points on Wilder being inactive, they are fair points to be fair.

Disagree on the chin thing with AJ though, Whyte had him staggered (and dropped him in amateurs), as did Usyk and we all know a Klitchsko of 10 years prior would of taken AJ out.
Obviously a heavyweight landing a punch can end a fight, but I haven’t looked at any shot AJ has ever took and thought, “Wow. What a punch” and that’s what the question marks over his chin are about. It seems like any shot (flush or not) he takes to his head has his head scrambled.
I think it’s also quite clear by his cautious way of fighting and his reluctancy to let his hands go that he too, knows his chin won’t hold up

both fellas have tasted defeat I wonder who it will make a difference to more folk can laff at Joshua and say he says stupid things but wilder is just as bad I think wilder has this weird thing where he can delude himself he can make him believe in stuff his deluded excuses after fury losses might help him cos he thinks fury cheated and he will still be confident where Joshua is no like that he over thinks hes no deluded that way
