As crazy as it sounds, they may want to wait one more year before making AJ/Wilder. There are actually some reasons for this.

Fury and Usyk will probably both retire soon. Which means the titles will be split. The IBF has already said only the first fight will have their title on the line.

The smart play from Hearn's perspective is to put AJ in with Hrgovic for the IBF. AJ wins that, then the Wilder fight is a title match again, increasing the value of the fight.

Wilder needs another fight in the mean time. A year plus out is not gonna benefit him other than rest, but with that comes rust. Wilder/Ruiz not happening is one of the most inexcusable things in HW boxing of 2023. I actually don't blame Wilder for this, I blame Ruiz. He wants $20 million, when in reality he's probably worth 30% at best. Yes, Ruiz was champion, for 6 months. The other 4 guys who have been champions in this era, have held on to their belts for years. He didn't look spectacular in his last 3 fights either.

Maybe we'll see it when they're senior citizens on a Logan Paul Jr. undercard.

They should wait 5 more years to make Fury Usyk when Usyk is 42

Floyd waited Pacquiao out for 7 years so Fury has 5 more years he can wait out right?

Bull****.. you can't hold up a potential big fight between two obvious opponents based on speculation of retirement of others. Boxing is already too chaotic and mis-managed to put a fight on the shelf for mere 'maybes'...

Wilder v Joshua has been marinating now since 2018,Hearn is dribbling Wilders name from his mouth more than ever and still won’t make the fight as long as there are other routes of less resistance he can pursue.

The fight is already past the point of true significance. The two undefeated belt holders in 2019 is long gone.

Both have been in with better boxers so the argument of ducking each other is also fairly redundant.

They might pick up the scraps from Usyk and Fury but we know they weren't the best.

    AJ won't win that.

This is the problem with boxing summarised in a nutshell of an opening post.

There's no good reason to put a fight off. They should have fought years ago.

The issue with this premise that Fury fights Usyk before hell freeze's over, it's an ill advised assumption considering all their ages.
This is already a weaker era due to the reluctance of half top fighters to face-off.

It definitely should not be delayed. Every time fighters/promoters try to play it smart one of the two gets injured, or gets busted for roids, or gets arrested, or loses to a nobody or whatever. And then it’s delayed even further increasing the chance the fight will never happen.

That would be s good fight ngl. I think Parker would win a decision in a competitive matchup.

Nah, delay it another 15 years, let this be the Holmes-Foreman of this generation, just less skills and accolades.
