It's also important to remember that 40 today, is not the same as being 40 in say the 80's.

    Wlad was in terrific shape.

Looked better than Ortiz, Stiverne, Duhuapas, Molina etc etc.

Why is Wilder's gas tank not questioned?

    He throws less.....

Does he take this cautious approach because he has a 'glass' tank?

    This.

It's almost a rule that the more muscular the fighter, the faster they deplete their gas tank. Big muscles suck up oxygen and glucose and are lactic acid generators. A very muscular fighter has to work very hard at their cardio to keep it on par.

I remember the debut of Mariusz Pudzianowski in MMA against Tim Sylvia. Sylvia looks like he trains on donuts and Mariusz ... well, he's the strongest man in the world (or was) and he was basically like a He-Man figurine came to life, except for that he looks more solid. He was laughing at how weak Sylvia looked. By the end of the first round Mariusz was as red as a beetroot and he looked like he was going to explode. Gassed big time. To give him credit, he was going to stay with it and improve his gas tank. How? Losing muscle.

Thats why Wlad was ssooooooo dumb to keep pecking away at AJ when he had him hurt and gassed. He should have poured on the pressure to keep that tank on "E" and to force him to engage. Especially since he himself had worked hard on his cardio.

If Povetkin is clever he turns it into a war and makes AJ work hard.

If AJ gasses against Povetkin, he's getting KO'd.

I think Wilder is more shredded than ultra muscular. His one asset other than his power is his great gas tank. He's still throwing bombs late in a fight, credit to him for that much.

I think Joshua's tank was worse than wlads. But he is still learning as he goes, he's not had many fights considering he is taking on high level seasoned Pro's and most of them never saw 3 rounds.

He was too big to be going too hard too soon. Hopefully he has learnt to pace himself and question his bulk.

Yea no. At 41 your tank is rapidly going to hell. Its biology.

im all for enjoying "once in a lifetime fighters", but if youre including ANY active heavyweight in that category, then you may be talking dog years.
superheavies today sacrifice endurance and speed, in favor of size and power. to beat them with a smaller man, you need high pace offensive activity from a guy who can crack. when a guy like that comes along, and he will, most will claim the big boys are just not very good at the moment.
wilder could be that guy, if he was more skilled, but his horrible technique prevents him being able to stay in the pressure zone for fear of getting ko by unskilled punchers.
    nothing new under the sun.

Klitschko was in fantastic shape In the AJ fight. Much better shape than he'd been in for 10 years.

    Thats an interesring prediction.

If a smaller heavyweight came along who had high volume punching, high endurance and stamina and tore the division apart, people would likely shift gears and say joshua, parker, fury, etc were garbage and not true super heavyweight athletes.

Better shape than hed been in 10 years? Bull, this is what joshua fans always say like he magically turned the biological clock to make joshuas win much better.

Wlad in his 20's had a worse tank as well. Purrity took him out because Wlad couldn't keep it together. Joshua could and even if Wlad was 41 , he was still miles better than Ross Purity.
Antony Joshua >> any version of Wlad

Could it have been nervous energy and then getting hit with a superb right hand that took quite a bit away from him?

Let's not forget Joshua had enough power and energy to get the stoppage, he got off the floor to do it, watch the last round again and in my opinion you'll see AJ has plenty left.

Let's not forget Wilder was out on his feet against a 97 year old with a heart condition but still managed to get the stoppage, he too should be given credit for getting the W after being in some trouble.
