Whyte mentioned it a number of times in the build up to their fight, describing AJ as 'blind' to these shots ... And sure enough he tagged him hard with such a shot and nearly stopped him. I wondered how this would be remedied vs Martin and sadly the fight didn't go on long enough to see properly However, I did wonder if AJ would address it and having just watched (through gritted teeth) my recorded PPV of the Joshua vs Martin fight and for the first 90 seconds AJ had that right hand glued to his ear, clearly under instruction ... But by just the second half of the first round that had already disappeared and his right hand was below his jaw. It feels like a permanent problem to me. Wlad, Wilder, Fury, Pulev etc all have great left hooks hidden behind jabs. I worry that this is going to be a huge issue for AJ when he steps up as a champion never having had to correct it getting to this stage.
Optimus Dime, are you a troll who deliberately leaves consecutive comments, making no sense along the way?
The **** needs to be IP banned. I go into threads seeing theres a decent number of replies and go in hoping for a good discussion but its just him posting nonsence.
I noticed this problem before Whyte tagged him and then, duly, he got tagged. You can see the fault during pad work in that, even when the right is high, his physique prevents him from really being able to tuck it in. Also when letting his hands go that right hand starts to come from the chest instead of the shoulder which again is asking for a counter hook. A correctly thrown right naturally protects your chin which is guarded by the shoulder.
Really good valid thread OP. Not aware that Whyte had pointed it out pre-fight, but looking at footage of him, it's there too see repeatedly. Joshua is a programmed boxer along the lines of Frank Bruno, the kind of guy who will always struggle against relaxed, natural boxers like Witherspoon or Fury.
When Joshua isn't concentrating he has a habit of having his hands low and his gloves practically together right under his chin instead of above the jawline. Sometimes his gloves are almost squard up rather than having the left in front of the right.
he is definitely lacking in technique and as mentioned isn't very natural with his boxing, I'd agree that a more fluid boxer like Fury would box circles round him that thing AJ does after throwing his right hand is asking for trouble, slow mechanical movement. he definitely needs more improvement, I think Haye would wipe him out at this point if he is on form.
Every time i watch Joshua i cant help thinking "Isaac Frost" from the Fight Night games. A heavy handed, mechanical, chinny sort that gets defeated by any sort of counter puncher or fighter that has decent footwork.
Whyte didn't really stop him. He tagged him and shook him up. As for the rest of your post, as you said, the Martin fight didn't really show anything. So the point of your post is?
That it was a gaping flaw that any good boxer & coach would target. So I assumed AJ & Mcraken would correct it in anticipation of opponents targeting it. Martin froze so it wasn't tested. But I notice his right hand was literally glued to his ear for 90 seconds and after the first punch he landed it went out the window whilst he admired his work and it was once again an open goal for a fighter of better standard of Martin. Ie. It's a huge problem going forwards IMO
