At the 8:50 point of this video, the interviewer asks Lennox Lewis why he never fought any southpaws and whether that was by design. Lewis gets out of it by telling a blatant lie:

    This content is protected

Lennox says there were no relevant southpaws in his era, completely ignoring the fact that he ducked Chris Byrd, who won the WBO belt from Vitali Klitschko in 2000 and won the IBF belt from Holyfield in 2002, all while begging for a big money fight with Lennox. Of course, Lennox pretended Byrd didn't exist, as he continues to do today.

What a con artist. Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua would have mopped the floor with him.

Every so often I hear this lie trotted out that Lennox avoided Chris Byrd

Chris Byrd was a tiny HW who Wlad beat around the ring like a rag doll. Lennox would have easily beaten him. There wasnt the appetite at the time for him to face Byrd- no one was calling for the fight either.

get over the fact that vitali wasnt clued up enough to beat a slick light heavyweight already, that was over a decade ago.

jeez all this cos byrd beat basic vitali, its no big deal.

Bryd was slightly harder to hit with jabs that Lennox was I feel you`re being a little unfair.

They would have also mopped the floor with Bryd, also Viltali in 2000 was far better than Holy was in 2002.

Moorer may have been a better southpaw than Bryd.

8:30 that`s why Lewis missed most of the right hands he threw at Bruno and how he got caught v McCall who was waiting for Lewis`s clumsy overhand right, Holy said he beat Tyson because most of his punches came round like Lewis`s right hand that he`s bragging about here, Holy said they are easier to defend than straight rights, while Lennox was fighting Holy Steward told Lennox that if he straightened his right hand he would win the fight and so it was as Lennox landed a lot of straight rights, people talk about Wilder`s windmill punches, well they have nothing on the wide clumsy rights Lennox was missing Bruno wityh all night, I don`t think Lewis has as great a knowledge of boxing as AJ who has a very straight right hand that`s completely untelegraphed, if Lewis fought AJ the same way he fought Frank back in `93 he would have been stopped fairly early.

Is this a joke? Byrd was pathetic compared to Lewis. He'd have his head taken off in 3/4 rounds. As would Wilder and Joshua. Fury would be a much harder fight than Byrd. Lewis was aging by 2002 and Byrd barley beat a slow stiff Klitschko in 2000. In fact Botha at that point was more proven IBF>WBO

Byrd barely got by tua who didn't even train at all but instead focusing on losing weight while Lewis easily beat Tua. I still laugh at ppl still believe Lewis was scared to fight byrd lolol. Ppl forget a green vitali was easily winning the fight before he torn his left shoulder vs byrd which is why vitali quit. Wlad twice without breaking a sweat easily beat Byrd.

Lewis wasnt a slick boxer when he fought bruno. Remember Lewis became a better fighter a smarter fighter when he was trained by steward. A prime Lewis with steward as his trainer? Joshua wouldn't last 5 rounds. You forget Lewis is 3-0 vs fighters that are taller than him?

Ppl forget that Lewis had to choose between fighting a boring slick small fighter in byrd? or a huge payday vs a way past prime Tyson? (who was ranked number 1 by the wbc) <<<<Many wanted Lewis vs Tyson not Lewis vs Byrd.

There was only one credible heavyweight southpaw around that time, Michael Moorer. Between 1994-1997 Moorer had lost twice to Holyfield and Foreman, you can't blame Lewis for not fighting Moorer as he still fought guys like Ray Mercer and Tommy Morrison after he'd lost to Mcall (he also fought good guys before the Mcall fight too).

Byrd's promoter did not want him to fight Lewis, he offered him a million dollars and gave him a car to vacate the belt he could set up a series of 3 fights where the ultimate winner would fight Lewis, it came to nothing when Roy job vacated his belt rather than fight Byrd.

Also Lewis fought quite well against fighters who were known for being power punchers. Lewis beat razor Ruddock, Michael Grant, David Tua, Tommy Morrison and an old Mike Tyson.
