A fight with Sanders in the 90s would’ve been awesome.

The best thing Byrd has going for him is that he never rematched Vitali (he would’ve lost every round).

it would if sanders had got into contention past rahman, but he was smashed out by him.

Byrd won two titles, thats easily better than winning one from vitali.

Tua could not cut the ring off so could never have beaten Lewis he was just a poor man`s Tyson. The 00`s was an overrated decade in the heavyweight division.

Vitali was by far the best win on Bryd`s record.

You feel Bowe dodged Moorer? Tyson was finished by the time Bryd became a contender and was in prison by the time Moorer became world champ, Moorer was out of shape by the time of his rematch with Holy and he and Tyson went downhill from that point on, before that during Tyson`s peak their were no southpaws in the heavyweight top 10 in fact there have been very few southpaw heavyweight champs, I don`t even know if there`s ever been a lineal southpaw heavyweight champ, this southpaw advantage can be taken a little too far at times.

Ducking is too strong a word overall. Just guided away. If a fighter didn't have to fight a southpaw, their team just didn't make the fight.

Mike, Lennox, and Riddick have what, about 140-150 fights between them? Most of them weren't title fights and it's not like southpaw heavyweights didn't exist. Yet Evander and Wlad each fought more southpaws for the title than the 3 of them did in their entire careers combined.

As far as the advantage being overstated.. .everyone thought Evander would walk through Moorer and Wlad would walk through Sanders. When you face a new style, it's no guarantee even a great HW can acclimate easily, and a southpaw a tier lower can easily spring an upset on a better overall orthodox heavy due to the lack of exposure.

That's why matchmakers had an anti-southpaw bias. It's not nearly as bad now as it used to be.

Corrie Sanders was mentioned as an opponent for Lewis many times. It never happened. Hmmmm, Sanders was a southpaw.

who got destroyed on his way to contention by the guy who got the shot. hmmmmm.

hmmm but of course you'd never dreamed of mentioning it... until years later when shot retired sanders wiped out prime wlad with ease. And then....hmmmmm..

Byrd was the Junior Varsity champ at best. At no point did anyone consider him the best heavyweight in the world. He was absolutely no threat to Lewis. To think that Lewis fought Holyfield, Tyson, and Vitali, but was afraid to fight Byrd, is ridiculous.
