Journeyman who were pretty good fighters

    I get your point, but in the literal meaning that does not need to be so, particularly among artists. Journeymen were involved in creating great works.

    In the literal meaning, the title of the thread is a contradiction in terms.

    As far as boxing is concerned ,which is my field of interest in sports ,the word great is the most overused one .

    Forgive me if they've been mentioned already, but Emmanuel Augustus and Darnell Boone definitely deserve their praise.

    Some journeymen had great potential but were mismanaged or never had the backing or guidance. Tough for some boxers with potential especially in the last 30 years with the super hypes.

    Recognised and recognized are both correct, just depends which side of the big pond you are on.

    Freddie Pendleton was pretty good and better than his record indicates so he deserves a shout.

    Yeah I thought he might've but couldn't remember for sure.

    I remembered him losing title shots against Whitaker, Trinidad and Page clearly though. He also lost to Rafael Ruelas in a title fight too from memory. I'll go boxrec him to jog my memory.
