Stating that Duran fought Hearns, Hagler, Benitez is particularly worthless in this thread because Duran:

NEITHER beat them to get his #1 status

NOR risked his #1 status with such tough challenges

    It's much like say:

"Judah was undisputed welterwright king who fought Tszyu, Mayweather, Cotto and Mosely". Literally right, but absolutely misleading. He received his crown for luckluster Spinks and fought PBF, Cotto and Shane only when he hadn't much to loose.

i think ATG's make each other almost i mean...for the most part win or lose those fights stand out.....today......comfortably name a Duran of this era a leonard a ali a frazier a hagler a hearns....i mean shyt they had so many back then....now...Cotto is Floyd's toughest fight and he is good but not as good as some make him to be.

Perhaps he's only undefeated because he's only faced one HOF'er(that one being past his prime) while the rest of the others listed faced multiple ones?:think

Who knows where Hatton will be at the end of his career, or whether Corrales could have resuscitated his career enough had he not died. I generally agree in principal though. Mayweather has fought weak opposition for his lofty position, and it sucks that he refuses to fight the best. Doesn't change that he's P4P#1 though, until someone outdoes him. It doesn't hurt that his last two fights were against top 20 P4P guys, even if one was weight drained and the other was fighting over his best weight.

I had major problems with RJJ's comp for a long time too. Yet in the end? He fought the top guys and Hopkins and Toney went a long way early on. RJJ is closer too Floyd in your terms and STILL fought better comp.

SRL? Man please look at 147. SRL laid it down vs the BEST Benitez, Duran, and Hearns a long with many others in a 3 year stretch. THAT PROVED he was a WW and AT legend.

There's differences that cant be twisted here:nono Floyd's never cleaned ANY division. He routinely worms around the toughest fights. There is no excuse and it is what IT IS!!

    Its all set right?:D :hi:

Floyd has never proven he's what he claims he is and CANT WITHOUT THE FIGHTS. Save the titles, save the offers, excuses, retirements PPV #'s and ALL THE REGULAR BULL****.

Time reveals ALL:yep The ACT has gotten STALE and the public is churning.

it's a good question but because money is so lucrative so do the 'rules of engagement'. and you better believe that the warrior - puritan approach to boxing would have been different with past P4P champs too if the same situation existed.

    their promoters would guarantee that.

so even though it's frustrating to not see floyd fight cotto (as it should be), it's more a sign of the times than a judgment on floyd because this trend is unlikely to change.

You are beginning to sound like those people in the classic forums, with all this stuff about legacy etc.

Possibly.... And losses do count for something as well, particularly if they are contraversial, or if they are very close against a great opponent. Still, who else could he really have fought? He has fought some very good opponents, and been very dominant against some of them. During the latter stages of his career, he has taken some easier fights. But overall, still some great opposition there.

Out of curiosity, who do you class as a HOF? Do you not think that Hatton will be in the HOF??

i disagree with it being a sign of the times. because during leonards era, the money being made at that time was unheard of, and it did not stop srl from making the fights that fans wanted to see, and made his legacy. dlh is part of this era, and there have been few if any fights that he failed to make.
this is simply about pbf refusing to prove himself against the best, rather him being content to get paid. i have no problem with that , but you cannot do that and call yourself the best ever without truly testing yourself.

Yeah, but Floyd is the FIRST P4P fighter in boxing history to defeat a guy that outweighed him by 300 lbs (Big Show). :hey

So? WHo really wants to be seen as the guy who won his WOrld Title off the weakest champ ever? Did Floyd see that as his best shot you think? He certainly isn't fighting anyone else of worth @ 147.

I think Floyd would like to be seen as the guy who took out Baldomir, who beat the man who beat the man at welterweight. Its not like Floyd went directly to Baldomir lol, he actually had to beat Zab first. Boy you Floyd haters are too much. :rofl

De La Hoya is his only sure-fire HOF'er, if we're being honest. Castillo and Corrales IMO have better shots at the HOF than Hatton if you ask me. Based on their standards today though, it's not out of question that Hatton could make it.

What big feat is it to beat Baldomir, belt or no belt? You can call him the undisputed champ to make him sound more prestigious, but his win over Baldomir wasn't exiciting, and he beat a friggin journeyman at that.

And who gives a **** if he didn't go directly to Baldimir. What does that have to do with anything? Is that the only way you can try to make sense? Add some useless ****in tidbit no one's talking about?
