The thread is more about the idea as a whole, not just the Floyd fight. Pavlik, Calzaghe, Hatton, all these champions should be fighting a #1 contender.
so fans are stupid if they watch the fight. thats like me saying wow you changed the channel on a spink fight your not a real fan cuz you can't appreciate the style. your generalizing and then chastizing any one who disagree's im not to big on this fight but it still a big fight and will make public waves again. if you don't like the fight don't order it . **** plenty of peopl buy fight thats shouldn't be made or shouldn't be paperview .l **** are you saying the people that bought the RJJ abadi fight arn't real fans or DK hw explosion aren't real fans?
This fight is terrible for the sport no matter how many people see it, thats the view I'm talking about, "as long as they make money its good for the sport". No, its good for their accountants, you are supposed to be a fan of the sport, which is a contest to see who is the best fighter, anything else related to the sport exists to make other people money. What do you care if these people make $5 million or $7million, what difference does it make to you? People defend the things that have moved the sport from mainstream to fringe just because it makes more money. Boxing fans have become more concerned about other peoples wallets than they are about the sport.
No, if the fight is there, then you might as well watch it because it is boxing, but if you WANT the fight to be made, then you're an idiot. If you want the top fighter to fight anybody else but the top contender, you don't want what is best for the competitive sport of boxing.
If a ton of people are watching the fight, I don't see how it's bad for the sport. You could have the greatest fight of all time, if no one sees it, it really doesn't matter.
Yes, it does matter, because it is doing what boxing is designed to do, prove who is the best, everything is secondary. A ton of people watching a joke is bad for the sport because then those people think that is what the sport is all about. The point is this, anybody who thinks Floyd SHOULD fight DLH rather than Cotto, have no reason at all to do so other than they want Floyd to get more money for doing much less. Its not the case of wanting a young up and commer to get a good money fight, Floyd is unimaginably wealthy, and is a champion. Champions have a duty to fight the best, that is the whole premise of a championship even existing.
true but some times they need fights that will garner them more recognition . lets say PBF toaly beats DLH down in this fight and tko's him or stops him on CUTS. well thats good and would make anyother fights he has in the future that much bigger kinda like the 2 chavez fights for DLH get the point from a marketing aspect . now isn't that good for the sport to have a sure fire superstar to bank after DLH leaves?:deal
And yet there are people on this very message board that disagree, and think DLH - Floyd should happen because it makes more for 2 incredibly wealthy people, as if they have some sort of vested interest in those people.
No whats good for the sport would be people becoming fans because they love the action, the drama, the human element. Whats bad for the sport is people watching because one of the fighters is the athletic equivlant of Paris Hilton, famous for being famous.
the lees money they make the less intrest from future talents we'll have. in order for the sport to carry on we need to ensure fighter make money to attract young talent. so yes it does matter.
