First off that money won't last because people won't watch just because people are famous, fans demand a high quality product. You aren't thinking long term enough.

Champs would make just as much or even more money by fighting the top fighters. And future champs would make more money by fighting contenders because fans would fall in love with boxing again, rather than falling in love with Paris Hiltons.

Anybody who thinks its OK for a champion to fight a non contender just doesn't get it.

not true. if the best fighter available still needs time to make a bigger name wich will make a bigger event i say give it time to cook. all in all it's better for the sport. the bigger cotto get the bigger the fight is with PBF which means the more attention it will get from mainstream media look at the hatton fight had it happend back when both were at 140 do you think it would sell 850k ppv in the us ? hell no but giving it time to cook and it was big. you get my point ?

This is so sad, the sport markets itself when done properly.

If the best fighters continually fight, the action is great and it draws true fans, fans that want to see the best, not whores who only care about name and how famous somebody is. The product sells itself. This is why boxing has become a total fringe sport, this line of thinking.

How a fighter sells should have zero to do with if he gets a shot at the champion, that is something you earn through fighting, not through photoshoots. This is such a negative sign for boxing that this is the common way of thinking. In every other sport you earn your place through play, the Giants didn't have to sit out of the playoffs because they werent as marketable as the Patriots.

Even if that doesn't work, which it would, let the best fighters continually fight to prove who is the best, which is the whole point of the sport, and show DLH and Tyson tag teaming a polar bear in MSG every week, thatll sell tickets, it must be great for the sport.

this is thinking long term thats the excat formula they used for DLH. and no PBF ,cotto would not make more money fighting each other then fighting DLH. think about it had LEWIS not beaten Tyson the media wouldn't have made a big deal about him . just like vitali vs DAnny williams there would be no intrest had he not beaten tyson. hence we need Dlh to be beaten sounly close to his weight limit to get the new star ala coto or pbf so let say pbf doesn't dominate dlh and dlh fights coto get beat up by coto then the fans have ther new star in the making vs an established star. their for PBF vs Coto is huge whne it happens

Some fanboys are just happy to see their faves do anything. The Pretty boyz and Golden Girlz of this site are idiots....

un fortunately the casual fans want to see stars fight stars not great fighter with no name recognition have a war with another great fighter with no name recogniton . now it dlh vs PBF had been like castillo coraless **** that would of banked the sport. but it didn't. and the casual fans it what will get the media intrested . i understand wht your saying but please don't be nieve to the business asspect of thing and look at it in a whole if coto beats margo then beats dlh after the pbf fight it make his fight with pbf even bigger then it would be now and that is a fact!

Long term, if the best continually fought the best, then the best would be the most famous. Even if they weren't the fans would fall in love with the action and competition of the sport rather than the one who is dating a supermodel or whatever makes them famous.

People being interested in Danny Williams vs Vitali is the problem, that fight should have never happened in a million years, just like DLH Floyd 2.

If you prefer the best fighters avoiding each other and running around fighting people from TV shows you can't be helped, but just know that you are killing the sport.

no your missing the point and using illogical statement to avoid the obivious. dlh fighting pbf will gain pbf more media recogniton. there for if coto continues to win and fights another star like DLH prferably it will make PBF cotto bigger .

Yes they will. This is exactly why they will watch the fight because the person fighting is famous, they know who the fighter is. This is called the casual fan who doesnt know to much about the sport they just know certain names. Think about it why do you think Rjj-Tito did well? The reason is people know those fighters they didnt care about the "quality" of the product just who was fighting. Actual fans of boxing know those two fighters are shot but the casual fans dont. T
The casual fan could care less about if DLH is shot or if he deserves a shot a Pbf again they just know who DLH is.

Why do you care about any of that?

I'm a boxing fan, I want to see the best fights, therefore I don't want to see Floyd and Oscar, that fight is a joke. Any boxing fan agrees with me.

You seem to be more interested in these guys as if you were their manager, you are not, you are supposedly a boxing fan. They will be rich beyond their wildest dreams regardless. If promoters continually made the best fights possible, then eventually any money the fighters miss out on when they first start doing this would come back to them many times over because fans of the sport itself will always want to see the best fights, and those fans would be created if the best fighters fought the best fighters.

Instead people will now only watch boxing because of the names because nobody cares about the sport because good fights aren't bothered to be made.

They will watch it once or twice, they wont keep watching it.

The reason the NBA is finally recovering from bad ratings is because the level of play is finally going back up.

Lots of people watched the DLH Floyd fight, but alot of them ended up saying "I'll never pay to watch boxing again" because since it was a terrible matchup, and ended up being a terrible fight, nobody ****ing wants to watch that.

On the other hand when Floyd fought Hatton, people fell in love with boxing and wanted to watch boxing, they didn't want to just watch Floyd or DLH, they wanted to watch good fights.

People who see a good fight will watch over and over as long as the fights keep being good, people who see Floyd - DLH will never watch again.

sorry but it don't always work that way sometime the best don't have the it factor :deal !.
Even if they weren't the fans would fall in love with the action and competition of the sport rather than the one who is dating a supermodel or whatever makes them famous..
yeah and then world peac would be next in a perfect world:woot

People being interested in Danny Williams vs Vitali is the problem, that fight should have never happened in a million years, just like DLH Floyd 2..
but the fight solidfied Vitali because he beat the man who beat the icon:smoke .
If you prefer the best fighters avoiding each other and running around fighting people from TV shows you can't be helped, but just know that you are killing the sport.
uh nobody said for it to happen over and over again had that been the case we would of never seen vitali vs sanders and he fought williams because he did beat tyson and was ranked in the top 10. and i guess holyfield and tyson should of never fought the rematch and HOlyfield should of fought lewis of the bat and lewis should of fought Rahman agiang instead of tyson or maybe chris byrd :verysad

Mixed Martial Arts has proven that my idea is right, people want to see the best possible FIGHTS, regardles of who that may be.

If you make somebody a fan of one person, they watch one or two fights a year; if you make a person a fan of the SPORT, they cannot get enough and want to see as much as possible.

This is why EliteXC, which has maybe 1 "name" fighter, just signed a deal with CBS, because people wanting to see fights is a better long term business plan than people wanting to see 1 fighter.

Why is the NFL, the only sport where you can't see the players, the most popular and profitable in America? Because people love football games, they could give a **** less who is playing, so long as they are the best football players.

im a boxing fan but im also business savy and you got to have star to build a star:good

now i think there is no need for this fight but it's still a good fight and some intrigue that will bring more casual fans to the sport and will help the sport get bigger which is what i also care about. i want the spor i love to never die out and to be talked about. think about it after the fight poped off last year we had a surge of great fights hell even after the fight was made they started to come and thats cuz the match makers knew the public eye would be on the sport. man im a fan but it sound like you have absoultly no business sense or you just are to ignorent to see that the pro's far out way the cons in this inperfect world.
