Is Joyce better than Baer was, and could he have beaten him when Max was in his prime? Would Joyce have been champ at any stage during Max`s era?
Eating shots from Parker like a champ is vastly different than eating shots from Baer. let Joyce prove himself against better competition first. He’s becoming a viable contender but only has like 15 fights
I’m not keen on Baer never have been, maybe it’s me but I just don’t see it. Joyce is 6’6” 270 pounds has an 80” reach, takes a good shot and keeps coming. Unless Baer lands a clean shot and takes Joyce out early then I think Joyce outworks him and takes a decision. I suspect I’ll get some pelters for this opinion though!
I agree. As much as I hate favoring at 37 year old 15 fight prospect over a legend, this may be a bad fight both physically and stylistically for Baer.
Joyce is a formidable fighter, and he deserves a title shot. Let's face it, everybody else in the top seven has lost to Fury, Usky, or somebody that they beat. However we need to see more from him, before we can make him favorite over Baer. As for Joyce's prospects in this era, his abilities are on his side, but time is not, owing to his age and style.
Max lands his right...it's over!!! Love all of the "revisionist" history! "Baer can't hit...his power is overrated?" Ask a real boxing historian...someone who knows his stuff...and tell him that Baer can't punch...amazing!!!
