Joyce v Dubois

Hmmm, he's beaten easily due to being too open but he's hardly laid out. Legs look fine after which is a testament to his fitness. Still, that overhand right will always be a worry.

Did take a lot of unnecessary shots vs stiverne but he throws a hell of a lot of leather himself. Has a ridiculous work rate for a heavyweight...

 

I wasn't impressed with what I saw on Saturday night and I think Dubois takes out Joyce. Joyce is being managed to the WBA regular title where he can scratch a living as a fringe contender whilst avoiding all the big dogs. He has absolutely zero chance against Ortiz and Sanchez was right to refuse the fight.

 

Dubois would beat Joyce to the punch and is more compact and disciplined.

If he could deal with the pressure and stand up to the power then he would win in my opinion.

 

No way this fight would happen at their different career stage points, amateur pedigree, and ages. It would be a detrimental move for both, and one that Joyce would comfortably win, and win early. Daniel should keep doing his thing. He's a baby at 21 and needs to meet a variety of styles and be patient. Joyce is already on the fringes of world level matchups and should be reaching his prime in coming years despite only having had 8 pro fights.

Dubois Gorman is one I'd love to see, however. Same with Joyce Fury (Hughie) domestically wise.

 

Joyce is really quite strange to watch, every punch thrown looks telegraphed, he's stiff, slow and cumbersome, yet powerful and accurate and that, with his high punch output, has seen him KO everyone of the tomato cans put in front of him so far. Stiverne turned up looking like he'd spent the last year sat on the couch eating fried chicken and drinking Coca Cola by the 2 litre bottle, he was an utter disgrace to the sport and should have been nothing more than a punchbag, the fact that he managed to land some meaningful punches on Joyce is a huge cause for concern. That said, Dubois hasn't set the world alight yet, he's just doing what's expected of him, beating guys who have day jobs and an old, past it, American. It's tough to call, I reckon Joyce would edge it on points, if his chin can stand up to it.

 

I would back Joyce to knock Dubois out at this stage in the middle rounds.

There is a big experience gap between the two of them, and Joyce is proven to be effective at a fringe world level now.

This isn’t a fight that either would take right now. Dubois because it’s too soon for him and Joyce because it’s too much risk for too little reward.

If you are backing Dubois at this stage to win you are going purely on the eye test and potential. A lot of people thought David Price would be world champion one day prior to Tony Thompson based on the eye test.

 

Yeah, basically if you get caught in the amateurs that's it. You don't get the opportunity to recover in the same way as the pros, which some fighters (Fury for example) are able to do better than others. Also, you're facing quality opposition on a regular basis, so you can pick up these early stoppage losses along the way without necessarily having a bad chin.

The concern for Joyce at the highest level is that his style seems predicated on him not just having a "decent enough" chin, but on it being made of the kind of reinforced titanium that allows him to walk through punches. He doesn't seem to roll with the shots, and catches even looping punches flush.

I'd be big on Joyce if he could get his chin tucked down and tighten up his defence. He has uncommon size, a crazy punch output for a super-heavyweight, and while not a one-punch guy he seems to have heavy hands and great physical strength. You don't need to look pretty when you've got the laws of physics on your side. The problem is at the top you have guys like Wilder and Joshua who have exceptional power, and nearly always find a way to land it.

 

Joyce is probably my favourite heavyweight to watch right now. It’s great seeing a heavyweight with a big punch output and constant pressure and he showed against stiverne that in order to fight that way against the big boys you need to have a good chin which he has.

I’m looking forward to seeing how his career pans out. To stop Stiverne in your 8th fight is a big deal!

I reckon Joyce crushes Dubois right now.

Only trouble is with fighters like Joyce and Whyte it’s not going to be an easy night for any opponent so they may be avoided for that reason

I enjoy watching Joyce too, he’s like a slower, though bigger, Ike Ibeabuchi...all action.

 

Does dubois hit harder than joyce? Up until yhis last fight i thought joyce had ridiculous power but Stiverne obviously has a better chin than his previous opponents

I like Jo Joyce - comes forward & fights wih heart. Might struggle in front of the camera - but who wants a polished thoughtful interview - id rather hear someone who doesn’t know what he’s gonna say next ... & which other heavyweights can do acrobatics in the ring!

 

IMO, Joyce has an excellent chin. I really, really rate him, and I would back him to beat both Wilder and Joshua. Fury, has the engine and abilty to out box him and avoid getting caught but I wouldn't bet my house on it.
