Not really. Rehydration clauses. He probably fights at at least 220. I think Okolie is a talent but ought to take a few fights at heavy before taking on Joyce.
I don't disagree with you, and in fact hope that you are right, but he ought to beat a couple of the very top cruisers first, and then have a couple of real fights at heavy before we can really judge.
Maybe one more fight at cruiserweight but I think it's a bit pointless in the grand scheme of things.
All about opinions... Okolie's biggest attribute is that he is bigger than the guys he is fighting, he will need to add a lot of muscle and that will slow him down a lot. Then when u take away the size advantage then you take away his best asset. Joyce is just too big and okolie just isn't good enough technically to bridge the gap
I like them both. This would be a very unwise first HW fight for Okolie. I do look forward to seeing Okolie at HW. With his frame he can carry 240 easily.
Both fighters base their style on physically overpowering their opponent - more so Okolie because Joe is a more accomplished boxer. So he would have to bulk up considerably to tackle Joyce just to compete. And how's he gonna octopus Joyce, exactly? He'd get rag dolled if he tried that with Joe unless he seriously bulked up. We can't know if his gas tank would remain, weighing in excess of 40-50llbs heavier - and he would have to; Okolie at 230llbs would be cannon fodder. And I can't escape the suspicion Okolie is protecting suspect whiskers; part of the reason he heads straight to the clinch after throwing could be chin issues. He does throw that right hand beautifully, though and straight right hands are Joyce's potential kryptonite. But he hasn't done nearly enough at CW yet to throw his name in with The Juggernaut, and in a division in which he's yet to compete. People do get a bit giddy about unproven talent. I'd rather wait for solid evidence of how his skill set translates to HW...
I remember the last heavyweight that came forward non stop and had an iron chin (Chisora) faced a cruiser (Haye). He got laid out like a carpet. I'm favouring Okolies vicious right hand and Big Shane's brilliant planning to see Lawrence win this one.
I don't think Chisora ever had a chin and engine like Joyce's and Okolie has never displayed the ferocious speed that Cruiser Haye did. Sorry man but I have to disagree with you on this one. Joyce has an elite level chin and engine and the power is strangely more real than it initially looks.
Alot of people are saying about Joyce's chin. He took some clean shots from Parker. Can't seem to remember him getting hit flush by Dubois. But do we still need to see his chin tested against some more big punchers to say that he has an excellent chin?
I get what you're saying mate, but it's not just about his chin, it's the way he marches forward after he's been hit, he's pretty relentless in that respect. I'm sure he could be knocked out if someone connected cleanly, but the same could be said for any heavyweight in the history of boxing. He must be soul destroying to fight. Looking at the current top heavyweights, Joshua seems to have a decent chin if that means he doesn't get knocked out easily, but he doesn't get hit and move forward, piling on the pressure. His legs buckle and he needs time to recover, nothing like Joyce. Fury does the old spoiling thing when he gets clipped, giving himself time too. Who knows, Okolie could connect with the first punch and it could be lights out, as is the fun and excitement of heavyweight boxing.
Yes, Joyce doesn’t do a Chisora and back off to the ropes. A lot of these blokes throw a few big shots and their stamina is sapped. That’s a recipe for disaster against Joyce. He doesn’t give any time to breathe. That’s where Joshua would struggle. He could land a few on Joyce, who would be unaffected, while he would need a breather. Joyce is becoming just as intimidating as Wilder, but in a different way.
Well Vitali couldn't out him away, neither could anyone else except Haye and Whyte over the last decade. Who on Joyce's extensive resume has power like these guys?
Uh, he retired in the corner against Fury. That counts as one of Fury’s 23 ko’s on official records so I’d rather go with that than your arbitrary and biased conceptualisation of “out (put, I presume) him away”. Fury’s performance was stunning. Toyed with him. Peak Chisora bludgeoned. Could’ve had him out cold but pleased with the referee to stop it. Fury is some bloke. Big heart.
