Possible decision for Hunter. Can't see him stopping Joyce to be honest. Personally, I don't think Hunter will do well under constant methodical pressure. He flagged against old Povetkin, I see Joyce drowning him late.
That's the way I see it too. I like Hunter and appreciate his well rounded skills, but he couldn't close out what should have been a comfortable win against Povetkin. Joyce's gas tank is several levels above Povetkin's and he will batter Hunter late, while likely down on the cards.
Maybe you're right, but I think while Joyce throws more, Povetkin is a better pressure fighter, he's better and cutting off the ring and had the speed to catch Hunter coming in at times as well. But Joyce being so much bigger and if he can maintain composure after losing perhaps the early rounds could maybe turn it around in the 2nd half if Hunter tires. I can see a case for either fighter winning.
He get gifted draw vs 40 y.o uncle Povetkin despite yanks sometimes are insisting that he had won this one. Next best his career achievement was being spanked by then in prime shape not old cruiserweight Usyk. I think this is reason why he is more popular than Hrgovic and had been offered for this fight more $ than Hrgovic might had get from this fight. Yeah, gifted " draw " vs 40 y.o uncle and being spanked by prime Usyk is reason to be more popular than Hrgovic.
If held in USA i'd fancy Hunter to get a points win in UK i'd lean towards Joyce. Can't see Hunter having the power to hurt Joyce and Joyce would struggle to land cleanly on the quite mobile Hunter. So would be a close affair.
Good fight this one. Not sure who'd win. I'd probably go Joyce but Hunter has a really good shot. Joyce would bring some dollars with him to the table so I could see this one getting made.
People still rate Hunter as a contender apparently... 1. Gets schooled and then battered by Usyk in America as a cruiser and would have been stopped in the 12th anywhere in the world but his backyard 2. Moves up to HW immediately to avoid the likes of Briedis, Gassiev etc. 3. Gets two decent wins over fringe contenders Bakole and Kuzmin, looks a bit promising 4. Fights a badly faded 40 year old Povetkin: gets off to a good start but flags midway, Povetkin (a nearly-man of the Klitschko era and a 6 round fighter even in his prime according to former coach Atlas) takes over and looks the stronger man in the championship rounds, Hunter gets a draw 5. Talks begin to fight the inexperienced but talented prospect Hrgovic for a mandatory position for AJ. Everything looks good but Hunter gets cold feet and abruptly pulls out, citing risk-reward. He fights a 38.5 year old, 2 year inactive, career cruiser journeyman featherfist on Triller instead. Hunter hasn't retired yet but the writing is on the wall.
