Sorry for another Joyce thread but what happened to Joyce's power yesterday? He's never had 1 punch KO power but he's always been heavy handed. A few stiff jabs and he has his opponent backing up and that's when he goes to work. Yesterday he didn't look like he could punch through a paper bag. Does Zhang just have an elite chin or was coming in 20lbs light a big mistake? Maybe the injury took something out of him? That was the weirdest thing about Joyce yesterday. There was nothing behind his punches. He punched like he was in a bad dream.
What power - he needed almost entire fight to put down the glass jaw Dubois and the out of gas Parker. Why not using his performance against Zhang to question it, but asking "what happened to"? We talk about power when you crush some hard fighters, not when you lose to them.
Look at the state of Dubois and Parker after those fights. Parker's a tough guy who's hardly ever been hurt (not by Joshua, not by Ruiz) and Joyce gave him the beating of a lifetime. It was like watching a different fighter in there compared to that.
He's heavy handed but he doesn't have the speed to have that kind of shocking one punch power. His opponents often see the punches coming and even if they can't get out of the way they can brace for them. Zhang I think already showed a good chin vs Hrgovic and again he showed he can take a shot and ride shots well. His chin was never really in doubt it's his stamina which has always been questionable and luckily for him we never got to see it tested.
What happened was that he tried his usual non stop, mostly arm punch combos mixed with a decent shot here and there but Zhang blocked most of them whether they were straight, hooks, or body. He took too many clean shots before accumulation & fatigue could take a toll on the opponent. Even after the 6th, Zhang was relatively fresh and untouched, and could still unload it spots which led to the stoppage.
"He's never had 1 punch KO power but he's always been heavy handed. It doesnt work vs a southpaw)
