Solís is getting jabbed into the corners, relying too much on his twitching defense and not bothering to form up a guard, just holding both arms down by his sides - and consequently Morán is able to alternate between poking him in the stomach and busting up his face. Morán now mixing in lead rights and even doubling or tripling up on the rear hand shot, with little to no resistance from Solís as the latter becomes more negative.

Round 5

Solís is getting momentarily bold as Morán reaches in with a three-piece over the top, and is backed out by a single Solís overhand right - but every time Solís starts moving forward Morán is quick to regain control with the sharp jab and combinations while spiraling counter-clockwise around the ring. Just enough successes for Solís to keep him from lapsing into spoiling mode as in the 4th, but he's getting the worst of exchanges. Low blow from Morán, unintentional and the glowering Solís is given a few seconds to recover. They finish out the round dancing around jabbing at each other's bodies.

Round 6

Solís comes in low, slinging out hooks like gangbusters. Morán rocks him with an uppercut and then pursues with heavy jabs and lunging rights. HUGE sidewinding body shot by Morán and Solís might be done. Clutching his sides, writhing on the canvas - yep!

If his name sounds familiar, Morán lost a close decision to Pedraza in 2018 and was brutally knocked out by Devin Haney last year.

 

Solís came in 25-10-4 (21) but had only been stopped 4x.

 

They just had some mini-documentary narrated by Abner Mares about himself, Cus D'Amato, Mike Tyson, and Manny Pacquiao. No clue what that was about, Spanish when spoken that fast (and not by people used to enunciating clearly, like television presenters) is totally unintelligible to me.

 

Xander Yarob Zayas Castro vs. Orlando Andrés Salgado, 4 rounds @ welterweight

 

Round 1

Zayas blocks and parries an initial flurry by Salgado and then goes on the offensive, hurting Salgado immediately with some hooks. Salgado down moments later, bowled over by a rapid accumulation of fast blows. They have a wild exchange, both stepping past each other and grabbing one another by the waist, errant fists strewn everywhere. All of these are home run swings, in both directions. Things settle down and Zayas begins to lay some pipe with the jab into Salgado's nose, then spank him with loud thumping left hooks. Salgado tries attacking but is countered with a right hand that has him out on his feet, and Zayas gets in an additional blistering 7 or 8 punch combo before the ref registers what's happening and saves Salgado.

KO1!!!

 

When himself 5-0, there was already insane hype around Verdejo but he wasn't half this good.
