Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. vs. Rodel Mayol & Jorge Arce vs. Mauricio Martinez RBR

Yeah, but we knew he was stronger and had far more high-level experience than this stringy kid who's still wet behind the ears (and whose chin I've been very suspicious of for a while now)

 

Round 1

Arce is keeping his gloves up tight under his chin as he circles and darts in with jabs and rights down the middle. Martinez tries to stay clear with skidding steps back and looks to line up a counter left hand while swinging his right arm low at his side in front. Head clashes occur when Arce darts in, unavoidable, but the ref warns them both anyway.

Ruond 2

Arce is taking big steps inside and hooking the body, but Martinez is placing the finger curl of his glove around Arce's shoulders and yanking down, holding Arce still and unable to execute any more effective offense. Arce is thus limited to single body shots on the way in before getting grabbed, but it's enough as Martinez isn't doing much himself. A lunging right hook by Martinez misses and leads to him tackling Arce into the ropes, and producing another clinch.

20-18 Arce

Round 3

Arce is lunging at Martinez with the right hand and getting caught and held. Martinez tries to line up left hands on the outside but just gets snared into a clinch himself. Both seem to have flypaper gloves, catching each other's shots in midair and pulling in tight to wrestle. Arce is connecting with shots over the top inside, knocking Martinez's head back. Arce down by the ropes at the end of the round, but I don't think it was a knockdown. The ref didn't count. Just fell as they disentangled.

Round 4

Arce falls in against Martinez and works the body. Martinez leans down into him and their skulls are ground together like mortar and pestle. The ref pauses to have a cut by Arce's eye checked out. Time in. Arce is still recklessly flying in, throwing roundhouse to the body as Martinez drops his head and shoulders down to meet him. Recipe for disaster. Arce is landing the better shots, to the body, as Martinez dances back and hot dogs with right jabs up from the hip and left hand pull counters that he probably saw on HBO and thought he could imitate...but can't. Another head clash and Arce is wincing and complaining to the ref. A point is taken from Martinez. Big flurry by Arce in the few seconds between time in being called and the bell.

10-8 Arce

40-35 Arce

 

He was out, man. I picked Mayol and was hoping he could take the kid out behind the woodshed...but his brains got scrambled. He didn't wind up outside the ring by accident.
