I saw him last night and he looked pretty good. He hasn't fought anybody yet, but I see some talent. He has pretty good hand speed and pop. He also has size. Does anybody know how he beat Gamboa in the amateur's?
they had fought a few times but the last fight maybe the last fight of Gamboa as amateur was with him and he lost in the semifinals to Carlos Velazquez. Velazquez manage to beat a mexican to win the gold and Gamboa manage to win the bronze medal by losing to Velazquez.
yeah, i heard them say that last night also. so while he was fighting, i was keeping an eye on him. he seems to be less naturally gifted than gamboa, but at this point he seems to be a better technical fighter. i say this b/c i think right now Gamboa has extremely raw talent, despite his long reign as an amateur. in the 2 fights i've seen of his, he has shown me very poor defense and he gets a little wild and overeager with his punches. I cant say much about Carlos b/c last night was the 1st time i had seen him and it was only 2 rounds. all i saw was that he seemed a bit more patient with better defense. but he definitely seemed to be lacking in the natural ability dept when compared to gamboa.
By the way Carlos Ivan velazquez is the guy who fought yesterday who beat Gamboa, Juan Carlos is his twin brother another great prospect but this is more of a boxer not a puncher, less agresive.
Juan Carlos Velesquez is this the guy that is a twin of a another boxer that looks just like him from Puerto Rico? They both are pretty fast right?
