Diaz is a small LW, forget the 140 division already! 140 would be a HUGE disadvantage for him but I see him defeating ANYONE in 135, no matter where they come from (130 or 140). I'd say he defeats PacMan in a FOTY stuff but outclassing out outpunching him in a close fight, and having a really hard time with Joan Guzman but maybe the punch output prevails (I'm not sure though).

A prime Casamayor is a very hard fight too just as Guzman so it's another hard fight to pick. Maybe he could defeat him too but it's hard to say. Castillo and Corrales are really strong but I think there's a difference in skill level. JLC would get outboxed, but maybe Corrales could've done something with his reach advantage. But remember that he wasn't the best guy to win a decision, he was outclassed by Freitas in the first half of their fight and Freitas is no p4p skilled fighter.

At 140 I see him giving Witter a Barrera-Hamed like beating, but then again Diaz is NOT a legitimate LWW, he's more of a natural SFW, just look at his size and body. He's fighting at 135 probably because he doesn't like to lose a lot of weight and maybe that's why he has that fantastic speed, stamina and punch output. But at 140 Ricky murders him. Floyd outclasses him at any weight, just watch the Quintana-Williams fight to see what to do to break someone's punch output. That's why I'm saying that Casamayor and Guzman is a hard fight to pick because at their prime they are both hell of a good fighters.

Bump. Posted this thread AGES before the Campbell fight. Just wanted to show, that most posters on this forum DID NOT think Diaz was an ATG fighter. Merely a guy who was thriving on a weak division in boxing. Which he can still do IMO. Losing a close fight DOES NOT mean the end of your career.

I give him Freitas, Malignaggi, and Diaz. He is still a very great fighter and I love watching him. Turns out Campbell went psycho in his training for this fight

NO PACQUIAO-DIAZ! MEXICAN BEATEN BY CAMPBELL

    Sun, 09 Mar 2008

Juan Diaz, who has been aching for a mega-bout with superstar Manny Pacquiao, was dethroned of his WBO, IBF and WBA lightweight belts when he was decisioned moments ago by Nate Campbell in Cancun, Mexico.

Judges Bill Clancy and Joe Garcia scored the bout for Campbell, 116-11 and 115-112 respectively, while judge Ric Bays saw it 114-113 for the defrocked Diaz.

Meanwhile, on the same card, Pacman's former sparmate Raymundo Beltran impressively stopped Moises Perez in the ninth round of their duel for the vacant WBC Continental Americas superfeatherweight title.

Ex-heavyweight champ John Ruiz also decisioned Jameel McCline in their 12-round eliminator.

I think he would always beat beat freitas as i dont think popo carried his punch up from 130 lb and i doubt his willingness to win a fight in the trenches. i dont really rate d diaz as he struggled with a shot morales. i think him and pac is a 50/50 fight as i think manny is a bit undersized for 130lb never mind 135 lb. floyd outclasses him. The rest i wouldnt favour him but he would have a chance if he performs to his best.

It was David Diaz. We here at ESB were the ones speculating on the J. Diaz-Pacquiao fight.

what makes me laugh is how people on this site think Juan Diaz' style is all wrong for Pac, that JMM's style is all wrong for Pac, and that Hamed's style is all wrong for Pac.

and then people come and say Pac is overrated.
