Juan Diaz is like the lightweight Jermain Taylor in that...

People just cant comprehend that he was never that good to begin with, and always extremely overrated. Actually its kind of an insult to Taylor, cause as overrated as JT was, he was a better fighter than Diaz.

Juan Diaz is a good fighter, NOTHING more. He rose up at lightweight at the perfect time. Floyd had moved up, and Corrales and Castillo beat eachother to death then moved up. His handlers kept him FAR away from Corrales, Castillo, and Casamayor.

He beat a series of bums, then beat a washed up Freitas who's heart had already been taken by Chico. Then he beat Wholio Diaz, and got exposed by Campbell. I'm sorry.... but a top fighter should not be losing to Nate Campbell, and as a result of that win... Campbell himself became overrated.

People blame his weight for his lack of success, but I dont buy it. Diaz has always trained hard in the gym, and has been fighting at 135 since he was like 18. He'd be drained if he dropped to 130. His physique just isnt ripped naturally, I dunno why people cant comprehend this.

Diaz is what he is and will always be. A good volume puncher w/reasonably decent handspeed who's very one dimensional, easy to hit, and lacks power. He's never been an elite fighter, and now the book is completely out on him.

As much weight as he drops, he'll still be one dimensional.

he gave Marquez a hell of a fight until JMM eventually broke him down. That loss was as impressive of any of his wins. And the wins over Freitas and Diaz were very solid wins, whether they were at the top of their game or not. He had a great run for awhile. And if he goes back to 135 is a top 3 fighter.

Very overrated and limited, but exciting to watch.

While I agree, he was probably a little hyped up by the powers that be due to his crowd pleasing style and personality, I wouldnt be too hard on him. Malignaggi is a tough matchup for him and makes a lot of guys look slow. I expect him to drop back to 135 and run off some victories. I always thought this rematch was a bit too risky for him.

He only had a great run cause he was kept away from Chico, Castillo, and Casamayor. Had he fought any of those 3 guys he woulda been exposed earlier.

I think you're basically right about this, but I wouldn't say Taylor was better. About the same, actually. At least Diaz didn't get all those gift decisions to pump up his career - the Paulie fight is the only one I'm aware of. Taylor has three of 'em!!!

It's funny and how some fans are stupid enough to think that a fighter is shot/exposed/overrated when he loses.

I just it Mayweather would be labelled as shot/expose/overrated if he loses. tsk tsk tsk.

No Taylor was better. JT never got dominated by a 2nd rate figher like Campbell, and his narrow wins over Hop alone blows away Diaz's whole career.

Juan Diaz is a hell of a fighter but he shouldnt be fighting at Junior Welterweight and 139 pounds is that. Diaz was owning Campbell until he had blood running down in his eyes trust me someone like Nate Campbell isnt beat Juan Diaz any other way. Look at Diaz's dominant performences over Julio Diaz (Diaz was never the same after) or Acelino Freitas in 2007 to see how good he was at one point.

This post is comical. For one, at NO point was Diaz "owning" Campbell. Nate came out from the opening bell and stood up to him w/strong body punching, and didnt wilt under his attack. That alone slowed Diaz up. As for the cut? Part of being a top flight fighter is being able to deal w/adversity... the fact that Diaz fell apart mentally after getting cut tells you alot.

Furthermore.... Julio Diaz was never that ggood to begin with. And Diaz hardly ruined him if thats what you're trying to say. Castillo gave Julio Diaz a bad beating, and KO'd him a few years prior to Juan getting hold of him.

Frietas was past it, and semi-retired when he fought Diaz. Plus Chico forever took Frietas' balls anyway.

I'd say in the end Diaz's best win was over Katsidis.

Even that win is clouded because Katsidis just came off being KOed by Casamayor and looked really tentative against Diaz. If they rematched now I have a feeling a confident Katsidis will beat him up.

I think he has regressed as a fighter. The guy out there with Pauli aint the Diaz that fought Marquez and Frietas. Diaz used a jab actually threw fast punches.. He was always slow on his feet but he could cut the ring off well. Marquez beat something out of him. I dont know. It dont have **** to do with weight.
