Juan LaPorte, he fought'em all

You believe as you like, I will believe as I like, Pedroza was dirty as they come. I watched him fight with friends, they saw what I saw. No talent professionals that cheat have no talent, cheating is cheating. In Cross Country and Track I saw competitors cheat like tripping another runner on purpose, they got disqualified from the race, eventually kicked off of their team. Boxing does not make you a tough guy, not really. I once had a street fight in Junior High with a boxer, when he put his dukes up, I kicked him between the legs, there are no Marquis Of Queensbury rules in a street fight, anything goes. It's not cheating because no one tells you don't hit below the belt or do not kick someone between the legs. Once it's done, it's done, no referee. Go ahead buddy and make your case for untalented bums who have to cheat when there are rules to adhere to. Different Strokes For Different Folks.

 

Are Tyson, Duran and Greb no-talent bums? Why can’t you say it? They cheated. They won. Therefore they should fall into the same category as Pedroza with you … so where’s your high horse with them?

Hilarious you talk about sportsmanship when you kicked a guy in the nuts in a fight rather than fight him fair. I guess when you think you’re going to get your fanny kicked all bets are off, huh?

Pedroza did what he did with a referee in the ring. He pushed the envelope but didn’t step over the line or he’d have been DQ’d. I can look up the ref of the name to be sure, but obviously it wasn’t you — so you don’t get a say. The ref decides where the lines are drawn … I guess he could DQ someone if there’s three clinches in the first round and say he’s holding, but where’s the fun in that? You wanna buy a ticket and spend your money to see that, or do you want to watch two guys FIGHT it out?

Straight-up, point blank:

1) Was Mike Tyson an untalented bum?

2) Was Harry Greb an untalented bum?

3) Was Roberto Duran an untalented bum?

They all cheated, so what say you? Why can’t you make yourself type if it that’s what you really believe?

As mentioned above, Juan LaPorte was scheduled to meet Salvador Sanchez in Sept. 1982. When Sanchez was killed, LaPorte fought for the vacant title and won. First thing he did was go to Mexico and pay his respects at Sanchez' grave. A real class guy!

 

He dropped Rocky Lockridge for the full count with a single right hand off the ropes in round two. In 53 bouts from 1978 to 1992, this was the ONLY time Lockridge was ever stopped. In back to back bouts, a 53-0 and 54-0 JCC couldn't stop either. They were the second and third to ever hear the final bell against JCC after 12 rounds.

Every time I saw Juan after Lockridge, he always seemed to be looking to catch that lightning in a bottle again, but after what he did to Lockridge, nobody was about to follow him to the ropes for a deadly trap like that. LaPorte retired with 40 wins, only 22 via stoppage, and had 16 decision losses with one draw, testimony to his chronic failure to pull the trigger.

Lockridge was never gun-shy and recovered from LaPorte to considerable championship successes. Yet he died over four years ago at just 60, while Juan remains alive and well at 63. training children.

 

Blassie picked that one up from Gorgeous George Wagner. (Actually, when the legendary Gorgeous One said it, Blassie was actually a face, a good guy wrestler who went by Sailor Fred.)

 

They certainly went at it didn't they. He KO'd Rocky in 2 rounds and actually showed some aggression in this little slugfest. It was an immense outlier for both of them. It's the only time Rocky got stopped and he too fought some solid opposition. Laporte also wasn't a huge banger. I'm still trying to work it out. I put in the box with Nunn - Kalambay and the likes as freak events.

I never lost a street fight. That guy that I fought was acting a fool because he starting prancing around like a Ballerina, he told everybody what he was going to do to me. As Joe Boxer was talking, I kicked him in the nuts, game over. When you fight, then fight, don't talk. You say I kicked that guy in the nuts because I thought I was going to get my fanny kicked, please do not projection guys like Pedroza onto me. Pedroza had rules, I did not have any rules to adhere to, neither did Joe Boxer, you made it sound like boxing was rough and tough, you are corny. I never went looking for a street fight but never backed away from one if provoked. I know that you are a fanboy of Pedroza because as you say he pushed an envelope, if I am dirty as you say, so is your dream fighter Pedroza, never saw the great Salvador Sanchez use dirty tactics because he was talented, he had skill. I think UFC is much tougher I know that you do not care for me, same here I feel the same way about you. You continue to criticize me, who in the hell are you to judge me? I am going to stick to the Lounge, over there the conversation are more stimulating and the posters are more intelligent, unlike you. You can go and treat the other here posters as your subordinates, you got some heavy duty Ego Issues.

 

Laporte always frustrates me, but I wouldn't bother being frustrated if I didn't see a lot in him to admire and praise. ATG chin, perhaps only Villasana's is on par; excellent power, properly thrown combinations (when he threw combinations).......lots of good stuff. If he'd just let his damn hands go.
