What do you think about this matchup? I think ill take Kelly by late stoppage but this is a pretty close matchup. How do you see this fight going?
This would be a war.......but Lopez by TKO Lopez is a very good and powerful fighter, Kelley was not in the same class (in talent !) in my opinion......
Really? Hmmm ican see Kelley outboxing Lopez and winnning some rounds big (even might ko him) but in a shoot out you have to give the advantage to Lopez, and that would probably end up happening Kelley had the talent to outbox you but he was a slugger at heart and wouldnt be able to help himself here. Thats where Lopez might get him.
Lopez is little more than a poor man's Cotto (which ain't sayin' much). Kelley would shoe-shine him all night long en route to a late rounds stoppage.
Maybe, yes...... And I like Lopez a lot......Lopez has his faults but he proved he is a world class fighter (today).....He proved his chin and toughness very well in the Marquez, Mtaga fights....And, I like his jab and he throws big hard punches has quick hands and very good combinations ! In my opinion....
I dont see that much similarites with Cotto and Lopez but i do agree that Cotto has the better skills, but PFP id say Lopez is the harder puncher, and that could be the X factor in this fight, because Kelly tended forget his skills and go toe to toe and although he was could punch a little himself . And if he did that he might get stopped. He could pull this out though if he fought disciplined like you said hes got the skills to outbox him..... Even Matchup though IMO thats why i put this thread up
Lopez is more a poor mans Trinidad then Cotto. I think Kelley would trade with him and get caught with a lot of counter right hooks. Kelley also struggled with punches which came from underneath. Lopez stoppage with Kelley ahead.
I wasn't willing to give Lopez's power the benefit of the doubt that you guys are. It looks decent thus far in his career, but he's no Trinidad, even a poor man's version. He doesn't look like too much bigger a puncher than a young Cotto, in my opinion. Similar style as well, with the basic, textbook form and plodding pressure style. Just not as good at it.
Cotto is much more deliberate and methodical, he also has more variety and better set up. Lopez definitely looks to have similar body rhythm to Trinidad (no ones saying he's as good or even remotely close). He's more Tito in his approach and mentality aswell. Maybe it's only me, but if i was gonna compare Lopez with anyone, in terms of his style it would be Felix before Miguel.
Yeah, Lopez isn't a tremendous one punch hitter. Little Gerry took all of his shots on the chin, and he couldn't seem to put Marquez on his ass either, two old, battle-worn fighters, it should be said.
I think both are. Lopez just isn't as technically sound while under pressure. He doesn't keep his punches as short and compact in those situations. He just isn't as well schooled. In general set-up I think they're very comparable, though. No doubt. That's what I meant when I said Lopez simply wasn't as good. I don't disagree too much, I just see a little more Cotto in general stance and method. With his reputation as a puncher he does seem to be going more down that route than the Cotto route, though, which I don't think will bode well for him in the future. He doesn't have the skills to back him up should he get caught in a situation where he can't simply one-punch the other guy out.
:good I agree just the way he stalks an opponent and his mental approach reminds me of Tito more than Cotto.
Lopez has to tighten up his defense. Kelley's probably the better fighter, but Lopez might be too strong for him, just as Gonzalez was, who was no defensive genius either. Tough call.
