Well, I had a pretty good seat there last night & JuanMa looked anything but sloppy. We had absolutely no idea how Lontchi was taking those shots... he took a flush audible shot right on the damn liver that lifted him up off the canvas... and, though he sure looked hurt, just got on his bicycle for a few seconds to recover! Earlier on that night, Korobov did a single body shot less on-target & solid than that & his boy was down for 4 minutes before he could get onto a stool. A lot of what would have looked like sloppiness on camera was JuanMa having to adjust to the different headbutt tactics Lontchi used (he had one hell of a bag of tricks for somebody I'd never heard of that couldn't look up during the press conferences!): he'd do a Holyfield, jump back against the ropes, use the momentum to blast his head at ramming speed towards belly level, then finish off with a body shoeshine before holding - truly bizarre stuff. JuanMa's skills were tight. Footwork was perfect, shoulders rolled, chin *always* in the right place but still managed to be flexible enough to turn flush head shots into grazing cheek shots. Lontchi turned out to be a really awkward headbutting spoiler and hurt Lopez's left hand with one of those headbutts. Dunno where you're getting this head-hunting stuff from. The mid-to-late round head shots were mostly to ward off butts & for some fantastic counters (in the 9th, he had Lontchi's right timed so well, that he countered him before Lontchi's elbow pulled up). After they settled in, it was a contest of body assaults... that JuanMa won clearly.
He has the perfect combination of speed and power. Are you saying that Ponce de Leon and Penalosa weren't live opponents?
Lontchi was underrated going into this fight. That's why people think it was a poor performance. the over/under was set at 5 rounds and the odds on the over were 5/4 which is rediculous for anyone who knows Lontchi. Money in the bank
I appreciate your post; especially since you were ringside. But, I know what I saw, and he looked sloppy. There was no camera trickery involved. And, I fully admit that Lontchi was awkward, but I saw Juan doing things on his own accord that were sloppy. He simply didn't look good Sat. night compared to what I've seen from him in the past. I truly believe he was frustrated and was taken out of his gameplan by Lontchi. Lontchi even started landing some on Juan as the fight progressed.
Exactly those kind of guys are named casual fans, they are blind only for the last fight. He just fought a fighter that was vryackward with a very dificult style to ko or look great too, check the media that know about boxing, and they know that Lontchi style is a problem for everyone.
LOL, what a garbage comment of course someone will beat him , just like all of the avobe metioned are beaten or will be beaten.
Juanma still looked pretty good against Lontchi. Not his best performance but still very good. Ive watched the fight and i dont think he had problems with stamina. Lontchi was just an awkward dirty fighter. We cant discount Juanmas chances at the higher weights just cause of that 1 fight. he was probably impatient during the later rounds but it is probably because of what lontchi has been doing to him.
I think Juanma learned a couple of lessons against Lontchi. He was definitely surprised. First mistake Juanma made was to promise a KO before the 10rnds.
this fight was just an essential part of the learning curve for JuanMa. Another smart pick by Top Rank
he didn't have a gameplan in that fight..he still win via KO and that is enough, he doesnt need to impress, the fab 4 of 122 are way above the rest
