I dont know if JMM is a level above Castillo at LW ,, Jose extremely battle tested there .. Too strong for JMM , Ill take Castillo
Not his resume ,,,, JMM isnt stopping Castillo at 135 mid rounds ,,, All good to disagree, but this isnt happening ... Castillo fought better , stronger guys there than JMM ..
JMM was in extremely tough fights with Diaz and Katsidis. Castillo was pretty much what you'd get if you crossed them together and made him a lot better. He wasn't fazed by Mayweather's counter punching, and wouldn't be dealing with that kind of movement, either. Castillo can take, and showed little respect for Chico's power. I think he'd get past Marquez's offense, and would find him in a war.
Agreed, He's too strong for Marquez. JLC clearly imposed his strength and consistently landed the bigger shots against Floyd.. And that part of the discussion of the fight isn't even debatable ... I had JLC winning by 1 point ... No problem with Floyd getting the nod tho ... as expected he would get ..... Just dont see the smaller JMM pulling it off .... good fight .. 60 -40 JLC for me
Juanma would try to outslick him and run his counterpunches and for the most part he would win most of the rounds in decisive fashion but Castillo would rough him up through out and could certainly hurt marques and definitely could drop his ass.. But I think Marques doesn't get drawn into an infighting battle with Castillo and instead busts him up with counters and from the outside and cuts Castillo's face all up and the fight gets stopped late in between rounds
The first time I saw Castillo was on the Chavez v Gamache card; he was on after the main event while everybody was leaving the arena. I thought that, on the night, he was the best fighter on the card. He would give Marquez a tough night at 135, win, lose or draw, and the fans would love it.
Yeah, I don't see JMM stopping Castillo - it's not impossible but it is unlikely I feel. Castillo was tough and strong and Marquez would need to counter the **** out of Castillo to win. If he got dragged into an in-fighting battle he'd be playing to Castillo's biggest strength and strength is the operative word. I think Marquez would have to go toe to toe with a big, durable lightweight at some points and yeah, I can see him being dropped as he was in other fights. Castillo edges it on points in a modern classic.
Castillo was able to deal effectively with two very good boxers in Mayweather and Casamayor. Marquez was seemingly always drawn into scraps above 126, at least in parts of fights. I think this is a very tough one to call, but it would have been well worth the price of admission.
