Young, big, strong, and awkward, Filipino super bantamweight Bernabe Concepcion might be the first challenger of newly crowned WBO champion Juan Manuel Lopez.
Having seen Concepcion against Torrence Daniels (video below) earlier this year, Bernabe reminded me of a young and wreckless Manny Pacquiao. His skills are far from polished, but raw ability and natural strength can go a long way in boxing.
Concepcion, now managed by Pacquiao and being brought to the United States to work with trainer Freddie Roach, has been mentioned by Bob Arum (promoter to Lopez and Concepcion) as Lopez's opponent for the first defense of his crown.
Mexico vs. the Philippines has produced some nice boxing drama. Is Puerto Rico vs. Philippines the next in hot boxing feuds?

Filipino hot prospect North American Boxing Federation (NABF) champion Bernabe Concepcion arrived at the LAX Airport on board Philippine Airlines Flight PR 102 at 8:44 pm June 7, 2008 Saturday (Los Angeles time).

He is currently resting at the Pallazo Apartment in La Brea owned by World Boxing Council (WBC) superfeatherweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

He barely missed watching the fight of Ponce De Leon against Juan Manuel Lopez for the WBO super bantamweight championship held in Atlantic City, New Jersey where Lopez prevailed via a sensational TKO at 2:25 of the first round.

Should Concepcion win in similar fashion on July 26, 2008 against a soon to be announced opponent, Top Rank might put him in line as challenger to the newly crowned Puerto Rican Juan Manuel Lopez.

Concepcion will be scheduled in undercard in the much awaited showdown between Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto and Mexican Antonio Margarito dubbed "The Battle" at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bernabe is focused for his upcoming fight and will continue to train at the Wild Card Gym under the watchful eye of world class coach/ trainer Freddie Roach. He will train side by side with Manny Pacquiao as he prepares for his bout against WBC lightweight Champion David Diaz from Chicago on June 28.

Man Juanma knocks this guy the **** out ... this would be an easy fight for Lopez. Conception has a hard time keeping his hands up ... and he's a fake Manny Pacquiao ... he doesn't have his own identity.

Concepcion isn't ready for Juanma. Lopez gets him out by the 6th.

I've never scene Concepcion fight before prior to this clip, but I'd say Lopez by Bazooka right/left hand. Concepcion doesn't like to keep his hands up, and that's a bad sign already.

Agreed, I was being a little generous :D. If he jumps in like Ponce did, he won't see the 4th. Some guys are vulnerable to unpolished brawlers, but Lopez will eat that kind of fighter up.

You are not dissecting how concepcion fights properly. His hands are not your typical winky wright position where you wonder how in hell can he see his opponent but right iin the level of his chin where it is supposed to be. This is entirely different to how Gamboa fights. Notice also that whenever he starts to enggage or when the opponent engages, he puts his hand higher, similar to the position where Lopez hands are. So the assessment that he does not put his hands up is entirely erroneous.

As to the outcome of a Concepcion-Lopez fight, Lopez is very polished fighter with power. That probably would make him win 9 out of 10 times. But Concepcion also has awesome power, and there is always a chance that it would land. Barring such scenario, Lopez is heavily favored to win.
