Juan Manuel Lopez Vs Gerry Peñalosa on April 24, 2009

Gerry is a hard fight for anyone...Im not so sure that this will go well for him however.

JuanMa's combination of size, speed and skill should see him win quite clearly.

But he has been feasting on 1 round ko's lately, which this wont be. I think Juanma takes it on points but Im interested to see how he fairs over the long haul against a guy like Gerry.

 

I'm picking lopez to win this fight probably by a majority decision but i cant see him winning by knockout. It can happen but i doubt he could knockout penalosa. He has a good chin and good defense. Ponce Deleon who throws like 100 punches a round didn't connect a solid shot on penalosa.

 

I think Gerry in his prime could have gone the distance with Juan Ma and may have even been too slick for Lopez. I just think he is too old and is going up against a hungry beast who is craving the limelight. I think Lopez TKO's him.

 

yea i agree.. Lopez better train for a long fight cuz this can go all the way to the 12 rounds.

I love this fight, and I think Gerry Penalosa is brilliant.

I think we find out if Lopez has a chin in this fight, but I will have to go with Lopez by decision. Gerry is to slick to get knocked out, but he will probably be outworked much like he was against Ponce. I'm rooting for Gerry.

this is what i want to see also. penalosa bringing the fight until the championship rounds where his experience would be an advantage and bank on the chance that juanma would fade. de leon is a workrate beast but lopez is a different animal. he is as strong (could be stronger in what i saw in the medina fight) and as big as ponce but he has the skills and patience too. i am amazed on how he stopped de leon knowing that he had him hurt but still has the maturity not to rush in and finish him intelligently. also one thing that will go against penalosa on this one aside from the size factor is his age and workrate. penalosa is not that active that even if he have good defensive rounds, judges would just give it to his opponent just like in the ponce fight even if deleon was not connecting solidly.

if penalosa can take lopez' punches, during the first round, i would be more confident. lopez really can punch as seen in his last fights, medina even felt it in a guarded position.

bad move for penalosa, he is too impatient... its going to be a KO..

 

penalosa i think just wants to earn as much as he can before he retires. he can only do so by fighting in a higher division and fighting the big boys not his own size. he really should be fighting in 118 down but not enough opportunity/money i guess.

 

Gerry by UD but I wouldn't be suprised if lopez got knocked out.
