Hence the Word: JOURNEYMAN!!! Mtagwa was brought to New York to simply be an Opponent!!! But Juanma failed to do his part. In fact, i didn't think Juanma won the fight....I simply thought he mereley SURVIVED IT!!! So if and WHEN Gamboa DESTROYS Mtagwa...Will he then become a Journeyman or will you still see him as some TOUGH WORTHY CHALLENGER:rofl Why do you think he will be put into the ring with Gamboa after fighting another undefeated fighter in his back yard of NYC (The "Other" Puerto Rico)? So Tanzania, Kenya, NYC, Southern Illinois, CT, South Carolina...hell in May he just fought a guy that was 31-33-5.:-( I never got the Memo...THAT THE DEFINITION OF JOURNEYMAN HAD CHANGED!!!
He's better than a journeyman that's for sure. Not a top 10 guy but a solid fringe contender. He's obviously fighting Gamboa so people can make comparisons for the upcoming big fight with Lopez.
MTAGWA is a really exciting fighter who despite his record (which does have some real robberies) is always one to watch. Lopez won, but if he began to trade (instead of running) rounds earlier he wouldve gotten knocked out with no doubt. I think the only QUESTIONABLE thing is if Mtagwa was falling around the ring not throwing back in the 12th would the Ref had stopped it?!?! It was heartbreaking but he lost on points. But was the winner as far as excitment goes. I liked Mtagwa for an upset in the Lopez fight but UNFORTUNATELY I don't give him much a chance vs Gamboa, I'd like nothing better than for him to prove me wrong. I did get a chance to meet ROGERS (and somewhat reenact the Villa end a few mths after that fight and what a really nice guy, he seemed thrilled to chat when I came up as a fan and knew him, a real class act who totally made my day.
JuanMa won, but Mtagwa proved that he's not as invincable as everyone first thought he was. I can't wait to see how Gamboa does against them both.
