Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Orlando Salido & Luis Cruz vs. Martin Honorio RBR

Round 1

Honorio is circling out wide, throwing body shots with both hands and sticking his left jab up high. Cruz is staying tentative on the outside, flicking his jab and countering Honorio with quick rights when he strays inside flurrying to the body. Honorio is landing well downstairs despite getting countered. Good opening round for the short-notice challenger.

 

Round 2

Honorio is coming in a bit wild, and getting hit with counter rights. Cruz is getting walked into the ropes and really letting his hands go...doing especially good damage with the left hook. Honorio is trying to line up straight punches and flopping forward with them as Cruz keeps taking steps off to the side and blasting him with the left. Big right by Honorio is deflected by a pulled left-hand punch of Cruz's.

Round 3

Honorio is swatting away to the body, as Cruz starts double-stepping outside and outboxing Honorio nicely from the outside. Honorio is very busy pressing in and throwing shots down low. Cruz countering with his left hook. Honorio presses him to the ropes and eats a counter left hook to the jaw. Honorio is just giving Cruz everything he wants, coming in straight forward (with no jab, as Al Bernstein points out) and getting countered at will by Cruz. Honorio is going for it...but losing as of now.

Round 4

Honorio comes ducking in with low scimitar shots, unable to find Cruz. Cruz is dancing around on the outside, taking only incidental body shots as he keeps Honorio lunging and counters him with good left jabs and hooks. Honorio is windmilling his way in and gets tied up. Honorio throws a big overhand right and goes off balance, then flurries hard to the body. Cruz takes a few shots to the sides but is able to avoid any skull damage.

Round 5

Honorio is swinging crazily, keeping Cruz staying safely outside. Cruz isn't getting any counters in as Honorio is just flashing his hands too much for him to linger anywhere near the pocket. Cruz starts timing Honorio coming in with that left hook. Honorio lands a nice right hand from across the Tecate logo. Honorio is getting inside and rapping his fists against Cruz's body well, taking minimal counter shots.

Round 6

They exchange shots up close, Honorio still pressing in and initiating but Cruz landing better. BIG LEFT HOOK BY HONORIO! They keep trading hard shots, with Honorio right in there but Cruz just a bit sharper. Cruz stuns Honorio with a good left hook. Honorio also gets a good right hand in, pushing Cruz's head back.

 

Round 7

Cruz is backed up by consistent but predictable right hand attacks from Honorio. Cruz is getting a bit overwhelmed as Honorio just hangs all over him and sends left hooks and overhand rights sailing at him. Cruz tries taking a stand at the end of the round to steal it but it isn't enough.

Round 8

Honorio tries to rip his way inside with overhand rights but is getting countered by straight shots. Honorio is hanging all over Cruz, getting worked over on the inside by the sharper left jabs and hooks of the southpaw.

Round 9

Honorio swings wildly with the overhand right. Cruz is coasting, jabbing and circling left to meet Honorio's erratic rushes with very precise counters.

Round 10

Honorio is wailing away to the body, backing Cruz into the ropes. Cruz has no time to counter and is forced to step in and clinch. Honorio lands a good left hook before being tied up. Cruz lands his left hook and knocks MH off balance. Counter uppercut and left hook land for Cruz! Honorio still coming, slugging away hard but missing a lot.
