The Showtime card starts in 2.5 hours; it's Cruz-Honorio and then Lopez-Salido.

Round 1

Negron holds his jab out high and digs his right to the body. Chasing Bear is acting more like a running bear. The crowd gets impatient. Negron is only landing his right hand to the body as Chasing Bear is not engaging too much. Negron isn't really forcing the action, though. Negron has a steady jab working but Chasing Bear is pulling away from it. Almost no punches from CB. Right hand to the chest by Negron. Another. CB flurries his way off the ropes and gets tagged with a HARD 1-2 by Negron. CB is knocked into the ropes and curls up into a ball getting thrashed until the bell.

10-9 Carlos Negron

 

They talk about how guys like Negron are so rare because all the potential Puerto Rican heavyweights are playing other sports (volleyball and basketball).

 

Round 2

Negron is keeping his jab flowing and landing better with it, bloodying Chasing Bear's nose. Nice 1-2-3 by Negron gliding forward. Chasing Bear keeps his hands up and moves left and right in short semi-circles. Chasing Bear tries to load up a big right hand but is badly telegraphing before even letting go. Negron walks him to the ropes and lifts a combo from body to head. Negron watches him from the outside, staying tall. 5 punch combo from Negron coming forward and briefly pressing Chasing Bear into the ropes. Chasing Bear doing a lot of hedgehog impersonation, circling and rolling into a ball. He spits out his mouthpiece but the ref doesn't see it right away. They delay the last three seconds of the round to put it back in.

20-18 Negron

 

Round 3

Negron lands a 1-2 blasting Chasing Bear into the corner but not taking advantage. Negron is spending too much time on the outside watching Chasing Bear. The big Native of Dakota comes forward and paws with some shots, nothing heavy but is doing a bit more. Negron keeps circling and jabbing high, ignoring the body. Chasing Bear is drawing him in toward the ropes and meeting him with high arcing pairs of clubbing blows.

30-27 Negron

 

Round 4

Chasing Bear ties up and then punches on the release, digging into Negron's ribs and then slapping him with a right up to the face. Emerson landing well while forcing an inside brawl and gets in a really nice uppercut but doesn't seem to have the power to gain much respect. Negron lines up some big straight shots from outside and hurts Chasing Bear. CB starts to loll to different sides, dipping all over to get away from Negron's power. Negron is landing a few bombs and badly hurting Chasing Bear when he does. It's stopped with Chasing Bear on his feet still protecting himself but under heavy fire.


Negron wins by TKO4, remains undefeated and improves to 75% stoppage.

 

We might run out of matches!

There are only three more, all scheduled for six rounds on this preliminary undercard broadcast.

The Showtime end of the card doesn't start for over two hours.

They'll either have to fill time in between bouts, or there will be a big gap between the end of the prelims and the start of the Showtime broadcast.

Either way, the live crowd there in Bayamon is going to get restless.

 

Well, if Bisbal-Herring, Gonzalez-Munguia, and Ugas-Garcia all go the distance that actually gobbles up about 90 minutes (18 rounds altogether x 4 minutes for the rounds and round-breaks...plus scorecard tallying & ring walk time) so that only leaves an extra half an hour. Still, that's a lot of thumb twiddling.

Plus, any or all of those could end inside the distance. :yep

OK, the Rush fan is Puerto Rico's other big heavyweight besides Carlos Negron - Victor Bisbal.

He's in there with Floridian journeyman Willie Herring, who actually lost a shutout decision to Negron back in January..

They've stretched this one out to be an 8-rounder, apparently.
