Taking a break from the Pac threads

    Juan Manuel Lopez

    How good is he?
Where do you see this guy going?
What division do you think he will make the most noise in?

I think Lopez is an exciting young champion but I fear he is relying to much on his power. The man has a lot of promise but slugs it out more than he has to.

    Thoughts?

He is a good fighter and I am looking foward to him for when he fights Marquez and Vazquez.

He's a very good overall boxer. I think that for now he relies too much on his power but he does have other tools at his disposal.

This guy is only going to get better and let's hope that he gets mega fights in the future!

Will he make it to lightweight or junior welter? He's 5'7 if I'm not mistaken, which is pretty decent height for those divisions and his build is great.

He's got room for improvement, but I'm loving the killer instinct combined with thoughtful compassion mix. Penalosa taught him a lot in their bout and I wouldn't be surprised if JuanMa adopts him as a mentor like dozens of others have. If there's any tools he finds he's missing, I think he's got the mindset to quickly adapt and do something about it.

I like him; I'm sure he'll go far.

It depends on what weight he settles to. I personally don't like the idea of him fighting above 130, but if he demands the bigger challenges, I'd say no more than 135lbs. He can continue to be successful at the 130-135 mark. With his age and natural size, he is vulnerable at the higher weight classes and isn't effective as he should be (based on his high skill level) due to lack of size and power. It also depends on how he ages over the next couple of years. I'd say he needs to get more conservative (not as risky) or tighten up on his defense to prolong his career, he gets hit a bit too often for my liking but he's a warrior at heart.
