Crazy thing is he is remembered for these wars he put in in his older age

When he was younger, he was pretty much unbeatable (a few heavily debatable decisions went against him)

Back then, he was an almost flawless counter puncher. Hamed, Morales and Barerra wanted nothing to do with him (easy enough to get away with in the pre mass internet era)

First heard about Marquez when Hamed was about to fight Barerra. They showed on UK TV replays of Morales Barerra 1. Fight blew my mind. Heard of Marquez only quietly mentioned in the background and thought little of it. Barerra thrashes Hamed and gets mass fame, Morales fame goes along with that, Marquez remains largely unknown - during his prime years

To try and get himself noticed he realized he had to change his style. He went from masterful defensive counterpuncher into aggressive counter punching boxer puncher. There are very few fighters i can think of who changed their style mid career and had the success JMM had

Somehow he lands the Pacquiao fight. And thats really the start of his rise to fame. Almost out in the first round (how that would have altered boxing history!) .... only to mount an insane comeback... and the rest is history

Heart, sublime skill, killer instinct, masterful combinations, adaptability, remarkable composure under fire, defense, toughness, the guy had it all. And he took them all on.

No draining, no ducking. Just fought the best out there time and time again regardless of how handicapped they tried to make him, and regardless of how much the system tried to break him

That to me is the definition of a true warrior

    Viva Juan Manuel Marquez :freddy

Only thing I really take issue with is saying Pacquiao drained to make weight.

    Which he rarely did.

He rehydrated 13 pounds to 135 in his last 122 pound fight. He outgrew the division and immediately moved up to 126 his very next fight. So he saw that he was draining to make weight so he moved up like anybody with a brain would do.

He rehydrated to 139 in his first 130 pound fight. Which is not much drainage. His last fight with Morales at 130 he rehydrated to 144 pounds. So during his last couple 130 pound fights he had to cut about 15 pounds.

So pretty much during his whole career he only had a few times where he was draining.

And it was never Gatti or Pavlik like drainage.

Even though Juan is a roided up cheater, he was always my favorite fighter of the last generation.

He gave it his all in the ring and had the essence of a champion. Respect to him, one of Mexico's greatest fighter. In my top 5.

The first time he fought Pacquiao Marquez was the top rank fighter, it was on a top rank show and the refferee and score cards were biased in his favour.

..I can't believe how blind some people are. I know he might be some of you guys favorite fighter. But to ignore the obvious is just dumb. I'm a Calzaghe fan but if Calzaghe ( who never was ripped up) worked with a KNOWED DRUG CHEAT and looked like a mini bodybuilder and viciously KO'S Hopkins. I would know that there is something fishy.
It's easy as hell to fake a clean test..just ask Shane Mosley. He never failed a drug test. If it wasn't for Balco and the Baseball thing, we would of never found out.
And I'm not a PAC fan, I support clean boxers and hate Cheats.

Marquez become jacked at 40 and looked like a natural Welter at 40 years old after being a career Featherweight. That is roids, plain and simple.

Pacquiao most likely wasn't on PED's. There's no evidence to say that he was on something. Only thing suspicious about Pacquiao PED wise was his super-stamina back in his featherweight days. He used to go super-saiyan and refuse to slow down. But other than that I don't think he used.
