Juan Manuel Marquez habla de la evolución boxística de Manny Pacquiao

I've always said that about Pacquiao.....he's made improvements but they are not that drastic.

When you're facing the likes of the left hook happy fighters that Pacquiao has been facing, his improvements are highlighted and look to be more than what they really are.

Pacquiao was still lunging with his left hand vs Mosley.
The opportunity to land the straight right will still be there for Marquez when Pacquiao lunges.

The more variables thrown into the equation, the more it benefits the cerebral fighter.

I'm certain Roach will prepare Pacquiao well and throw a creece or two different that Pacquiao has'nt shown so much lately.
Thats Roach's job.......the problem for Pacquiao is that Marquez is far cerebral boxistically than he is that Marquez can figure out what Pacquiao is up to and make the adjustment right in the same round that Pacquiao throws that creece.
The adjustments Marquez makes in the ring, Pacquiao is incapable of making.
All he can do is fight as he was prepared to do so in training camp.

 

If only he was a fluent English speaker, maybe he could be a commentator.

 

I've noticed this before in the PAc-JMM fight. Those two guys are masters at feinting. There's a gif being posted here where Manny put out a double feint but JMM feinted a counter then eventually Pac awkwardly retreated. I tthought that was a great exchange.

Announcer Dude: Now we're in the ring of Juan Manuel Marquez, in the Golpe-a-Golpe, ring to elaborate on the performance this past Saturday Night from Manny Pacquiao, and how he has gone on evolving, for better or worse...Juan Manuel Marquez is going to try to explain to us- you've fought him fight, you know him to perfection.

JMM: Yes, I know him very well, and he's a fighter who, well, hasn't lost his speed, and seems like a fighter to me who uses more of his right hand,-

Announcer Dude: How does he do it?

JMM: He uses hooks and uppercuts, he doesn't just work with speed; he used to be a fighter that, if he connected on you with the left, he got you down, because it's-

Announcer Dude: He lived by the 1-2

JMM: Exactly, but now he's using on you right hands as counterpunches and then sticks the left in... after you jab, he comes back with a right hook over your jab, and he moves very quickly and comes in with rights, and is now using uppercuts, which he never used before. So after the hooks, he'll end again with the left, and the same with the uppercuts, repeats the process (throws left) with a barbaric speed.

Announcer Dude: Now- He shows very special feints, Manny Pacquiao. He'll give the impression he's going to hit you in the body time and time again, until you finally drop your guard and he he comes with a huge punch upstairs.

JMM: That feint, like we were saying off-air, that feint he's been doing it to all, and he's connected the left on all of them.

Announcer Dude: He did it to you Juan?

JMM: He did it to me the first time, and the second time we had it measured, more-or-less.

Announcer Dude: How is it?

JMM: It's a feint where..he's moving, out of his southpaw stance, then he comes forward as if to come in, feints down low, but then he comes back again with a one two with one hell of a left hand, and he's connected on all of them like that.

Announcer Dude: That's how he connected against Mosley.

JMM: That's how he connected against Mosley in the knockdown he got against him. Because it's a very fast feint, he'll come in, bounce back and in and comes back with a potent left hand.

Announcer Dude: Did you see him better or worse than in the past?

JMM: Well, to me he looked good...

Announcer Dude: Like always?

JMM: Like always but not the same as other fights, I didn't see the same speed-

Announcer Dude: He said he had cramps in one leg.

JMM: Then I think that's what affected him but also..

Announcer Dude: Mosley didn't present a real fight.

JMM: To say that it affected him shouldn't be an excuse, but also Mosley didn't present a real fight, and that's why what happened wasn't what everyone was expecting which was a great fight.

Announcer Dude: Juan, to take Pacquiao out of his rhythm at distance, what has to be done?

JMM: I've always said it-you have to fight him in the same rhythm. If Manny Pacquiao moves, you have to move as well and throw combinations of punches, and not stay right there but move around, side-to-side, and simultaneously, feint him with hooks, rights, and uppercuts, fighting at the same rhythm as he is, and when he is throwing his own combinations, counter-punch him as well.

Announcer Dude: Can he be beat?

JMM: He can be beat, of course.

Announcer Dude: With fear, one can't win.

JMM: No, if you have fear, you're not going to win against anyone.

Announcer Dude: Mosley had fear from him.

JMM: No, he had a lot. A lot of fear, I think he didn't want to be knocked out.

Announcer Dude: There go the lights, and there we end the ring of Juan Manuel Marquez.

JMM showed in the first fight that he has Pac's numbers and that he was Pac's stylistic nightmare. But in the second fight, Pac showed his versatility by boxing with marquez, overcoming his stylistic nightmare by keeping the boxing match a very close one with each fighter claiming his fair share of rounds. let us disregard the knockdown for a while and admit the fact that Pac won rounds by boxing with marquez. In the third fight, not only has pacquiao added more dimensions to his game, his power has increased significantly precisely due to the fact that he doesn't burn his own muscles by trying to drain to the 130-pound limit. Pac is well-nourished at 147lbs, very strong and that would be the deal-breaker for this fight. JMM may not be able to handle the power of the punches that Pac will hit him with.

 

This is true. Pac matched him by boxing in some good rounds. My point is that if he relies more on his boxing now and doesn't necessarily have the speed, his ability to switch between beast mode and smart mode may switch up and Marquez will respond in kind. I agree with your points though. All depends on what JMM brings to the table. I hope he can give a great fight.

 

Why does no-one assume that both the higher weight & more years on the clock won't have diminished Marquez's speed/reflexes (timing)??? Pac has improved and JMM well, lets say he is not the same fighter.

 

This is obvious. JMM however has also shown that he can adapt his style to his aging. His defense against pressure improved significantly against Katsidis than against Diaz, and has relied on more head movement now that his legs aren't as dependable.

You know its going to be a great fight no matter the outcome. JMM is Mexican and he wont run away or cover up all night. He is either going for the KO or getting KOd. At the end of the day thats all we want right?
