Dougie over at the Ring scored it 117-111 live and 116-12 upon further review.

I'm right there with him. Gave Canelo 9 rounds and im sure it's feasible to give him 8 upon a second viewing. Otherwise it was amongst the cleanest decisions I ever saw.

Marquez is also the guy that thinks he actually beat Tim Bradley. Guess he's impressed by punching air??

As much as I love Marquez, he's hating on Alvarez a bit, and has held some kind of contempt for many years now.

Marquez and his trainer Nacho have been long time critics of Canelo.

in 2011 when Canelo was 21 and became a world titlst by beating Matthew Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez was very critical of Canelo for fighting Hatton.

When the Mexican press asked Canelo his thoughts on Marquez's criticism, Canelo responded by challenging JMM to a boxing match... I don't think Marquez was very happy about that, and has continued to be somewhat biased against Canelo.

I'm a huge Marquez fan but you can tell he's jealous and don't forget that they both got beef from a while back

    :deal:

Doesn't jive with their agenda, so there must be a vast conspiracy against Canelo involving you, me, Froch, JMM..

This. I like Marquez, but besides a few good moments Jacobs barely landed any clean shots while Canelo kept tagging him with clean shots.

I also agree with Marquez being delusional about beating Bradley. Marquez was still on cloud nine after knocking out PAC and tried to do the same to Bradley, which didn’t work, since Bradley used his mobility and boxed Marquez smart and didn’t trade.

You gotta be kidding me  He must have a personal issue with Canelo. I find it hard to believe any boxing technician genuinely feels Jacobs won that fight with such a basic display.

I'm a much bigger Marquez fan than Canelo, but JMM is so biased against Canelo.

It's weird because I feel Canelo and JMM share similar strengths and weaknesses, and obviously both use the counter punching style very well.

I mentioned it in a thread earlier today, but JMM has been very critical of Canelo for a long time, even as far as 2011 when Canelo was 21, when JMM was asked about Canelo becoming a champion.

JMM was criticizing Canelo for becoming a world titlist by beating Hatton. Later that week the same network interviewed Canelo and asked him his thoughts on what JMM said about him, and Canelo responded by challenging Marquez to a fight which when they interviewed JMM again he said it was not going to happen. Its on youtube, obviously in Spanish.

Mexican fighters are very proud and macho. Barrera was not celebrating when JMM KO Pacquiao, he actually looked gutted.
JMM was the face of Mexican boxing up until Canelo became a household name. I can see why there may be some animosity.

Mexicans know JMM isn't too fond of Canelo.

Lots of rumours about JMM being on the juice too.

I had it 115-113, IB had it 114-114 and several other good scorers on here had it 115-113 Jacobs, the fight was razor close, I see nothing outrageous about JMM in the least. As basic as Jacobs was, Canelo equaled his level of basicness in the last 6 rounds.

I respect your score... we simply strongly disagree here. I dont see a case for a Jacobs win. Heck, Jacobs own promoter scored it for Canelo.

I'll rewatch it... chances are you were able to pay better attention to the fight than I was and maybe I missed something, but... as of right now, I just dont see this as a fight that could have went either way and I genuinely get the sense from various outlets (people I know in person, people talking at work, social media boxing groups Im in, and the vast majority of the professionals within boxing I see comment on it felt it was the right decision.)

That being said... one thing Ive simply come to accept in this sport is, different people score differently and can feel two different ways about a fight. And Ive had to accept that the way I score a fight isnt the be all end all.

Its a two edged sword though. As while I have accepted that... hey... maybe Jacobs won for you and Canelo won for me, and thats ok, the other edge is... well that kinda opens the door for anyone to try to legitimize blatantly ridiculous scoring. So idk...

But meh... it is what it is. I'll rescore it n let you know what I come up with, but really, theres just no way Jacobs won 7 rounds there to me.

    @IsaL

Bro, your avatar is hilarious. 4 Mexicans and 3 of them are linked to PEDs. 2 got caught. 1 was the one of the biggest PED users in boxing history.

Really puts a negative light on Mexican Boxing.
