Once shown on television drinking his own urine during training, Mexican great Juan Manuel Marquez will shift to medical science for his third showdown against Manny Pacquiao.
Marquez, the WBA and WBO lightweight champion, told Examiner.com on Wednesday that he’ll bulk up once again, just like he did against Floyd Mayweather Jr., but this time it will be done under doctor’s supervision.
“I will come in at a higher weight than normal,” said Marquez, who’ll be chasing Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight crown at a catch weight of 144 pounds on Nov. 12 in Las Vegas. “But I will have doctors monitoring my progress.”

The 37-year-old Marquez learned during his lopsided unanimous decision loss to Mayweather on Sept. 19, 2009, that he isn’t that mobile when he weighed in at 142 pounds.
In their first encounter in 2004, Marquez recovered from three first-round knockdowns to forge a draw with the
    pound-for-pound king.
When they fought again in 2008 at 130 pounds, Marquez again fell in the third round and it proved to be the pivotal factor in Pacquiao’s split decision win.
A worldwide promotional tour for the bout will kick off in Manila in August, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the Inquirer yesterday. The worldwide tour will end in Mexico after hitting big capitals of the world.
Arum also indicated that he expects Pacquiao to train for about eight weeks, beginning in mid-September

    why not just stay light

why gain ten pounds of fat when you can just come in shape

Marquez best option would be to stay light and come in at around 138-142 on fight night but I guess he feels Pac will come as a big as he possible can (which he will otherwise he wouldn't have shafted Marquez by making him come up to welter) and that he needs to gain weight or get pushed around to easily by a now natural welter weight.

if he's going to add weight, he needs to make sure it's all in his legs and gain strength there and it could possibly translate to having more bounciness from the added strength

Would it help JMM to just weigh in close to what he does at a lightweight fight? Once he rehydrates he would probably be close to Pacquiao anyway.

Similar to how Pacquiao weighed 144 against Margo. Just because its at 144 doesnt mean you have to weigh 144. Although i dont know Marquez's body so hopefully he puts the weight on properly.

good point. i feel that marquez best weapon against manny is his fast counter abilities.. so no matter how big manny will come, his chin is still vulnerable.

Pac weighed 148 against Margarito on fight night.

JMM weighed 145 against Katsidis on fight night.

144 is a good weight limit for both as neither will have to cut weight and will be fresh for the fight.

Pac and JMM are almost the same size height and weight.

he should just train towards optimum speed and strength. the weight will take care of itself since there is little chance of him going over if he is in his most efective fighting weight. he will just be on weight on fight week and wont need to rehydrate much after weigh in.

:good Sweet. Now I member that's the Diobylis Hurtado fight. If he could make a big welter like a prime Oscar "slip", yea, I agree, Pea always had underrated, sneaky power. His style helped conceive that.

good points besides pac being a natural welter. he is more a LW/JWW who fights at welter, as evidenced by him weighing no more than 148 in any of his fights. though he is extremely strong for the weight no doubt and will be the strongest version Marquez will have faced and he'll need to compensate for that.
