ledwaba was a legit champ and easily top 3 of the superbantam division when pac KO'd him. he wasn't top 10 p4p but he certainly was an elite fighter at that time. pac was a very late substitute for this fight having been given only two weeks notice.

    Maybe.

But this little "myth" that he is the best featherweight in this era, even better against Morales, Barrera, Naz and Pacquaio is, clearly, very debatable, and at times, soundling more just like a poor lip service to a career mired by poor management than a homage to what he really was as a boxer.

Was he robbed in those two fights against Pacquaio? Only the people who actually hate his fanatics are shouting this overused phrase. He got the unfavorable decision in the second fight, but this was one of the fights that could have gone either way, or could have been a draw, which just what like occured in the first fight (which was also controversial becasue of the admission of one of the judges of his error). Ask any non-partisan boxing fans who saw the fight and they may have JMM as the winner, but they do not have any problem with Pac winning it becasue of the closeness of the scores due to the KD in 3rd round. They could have scored those close rounds to Pac. In short, it could have gone either way. Maybe a controversial win, but hardly a robbery at all.

It can also be used as a gauge of how he performed in those big fights as well. Against MAB, which I had him winning btw in a close but clear UD, he found himself being KDed, and if that was called as official, there was indeed a great chance that it could have gone either way since that was the breaking point of the good fight.

As for his two fights with Pac, it can be argued that he did not really made a convincing performance in either of the fights that could have made the judges see it the way they saw the performance of Morales in his initial fight with Pac. If you want to have a clear, impressive, and doubtless UD win against Pac, you do not only need to outbox him, but you have to take his best punches and never flicker (and get KD numerous times). And that was what Morales did. JMM outboxed Pac, but remember KDs are also scored bigtime, and JMM went to canvass four times against Pac. Was it pure miscalculation on his part as a defensive boxer, or his chin is not just that solid, or his balance is not good? Nevertheless, the fact remains that he never had a perfect fight against elite oppositions (few actually; only Pac and MAB) and this should be also noted in assessing his status as one of the best featrherweights in his generation.

In short, he was great, and deserved to be mentioned side by side with the trio, but to put him above them based on these "what if" situation is like asking what if Morales won all of his fights and quit right after his victory with Pac, will he be the greatest featherweight of the last twenty years? Only Morales is still greater than JMM even with all those losses.
