Juan Manuel Marquez - Marco Antonio Barrera

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Indio-Bandido, Nov 30, 2010.

  1. I've watched that fight about 5 times and i honestly think that Marquez schooled Barrera. I thought it was a clear Marquez victory. However, since ive read on here more than once that Barrera won, I'd like to know what most of guys think. Thank you.

Clear win for Marquez. I've watched it several times and there's no way I could score that fight for Marco.

It was a great technical fight. JMM clearly won it.

I agree that JMM won fairly decisively but I think the controversy was about the scoring. They scored it much wider than it should have been because Barrera came to fight that night.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a 2 point swing due to MAB hitting JMM while he was down? Following a KD that was ruled a slip?

Either way, Marquez was correctly ruled the winner,

yeah. barrera got deducted a point when he hit jmm w/ a punch when he was down on the floor. the ref could've easily ignored and waved that off though. there was also a clear KD scored by barrera but the ref wrongly ruled it as a slip.

w/o that 2 point swing, the fight could've been closer.

and you know who reffed that fight... the "great" jay nady. :-(

this is the thing.....the fight overall was great, and many think that all great fights have to be close....the fights are judged round by round, and imo that's what confuses many people....when you have an action packed fight, people forget to score "round by round", and end up looking at the fight as just a "great, close fight"...but that wasn't the case here, the case here is that some of the rounds were action packed, but the fight as a whole was not close at all....jmm clearly won that fight

but if barerra were still young, jmm will be defeated easily.
    jmm-margo will be better!

  14. i doubt it. barrera would always start brawling. marquez could have boxed to a comfortable UD. furthermore, barrera, even in his prime, could be knocked out. jones proved it to us. dont get me wrong, the guy's always had a superb chin. i just think marquez's chin has been better throughout his career.

What a great, great fight this was.

    3rd best fight of '07 behind Rafa-Izzy 2 and 1 IMO.
