The truth is, Barrera is more talented and more ferocious than Marquez when he was prime. No way he could lose to Marquez if they fought in their prime.

That is JMM's lone notable win and people call this guy a HOF?

If you guys would take the time to really analyze, you'd see that it would be quite possible that Marquez could have beaten MAB even easier than he did when MAB was in his heyday........

MAB in his prime was a more aggressive fighter.
JMM takes those type fighters to the woodshed.

......by the time the JMM-MAB fight came about, MAB was the sentimental favorite backed by the HBO hype machine.

Nacho Beristain stated it before the fight, something to the effect...."We are not going to be able to afford Juan fight his normal fight.
MAB is going to want to keep the exchanges to a minumum, and he being the sentimental favorite, we cant afford to have Juan sit back on counter mode......the judges will just give those rounds to MAB."

"We have no choice but to come out aggressive and force the fight."

Those were just two of Nacho's quotes leading to the MAB fight.

Essentially Marquez beat up on MAB, taking the aggressive lead in which is'nt his preference.

Marquez did it because the situation at hand fighting a sentimental fan favorite called for it.

    How's that for greatness!!!!:deal:deal:deal:bbb:bbb:bbb

Agreed on both. There's a highlight somewhere that showcases all the gorgeous scoring punches by both fighters. It was a technical festival.

I'm the biggest MAB fan in the world, but I thought he lost that fight as well. In MAB's prime, imho, it would be a different story. MAB can box as well as Marquez can, and in his prime he could go to a higher gear - and would - in a split second. He also had quite a bit more pop than JMM at FW and could probably pick up a KD or two to seal the deal. To be technical about it, MAB was probably at his best at JFW while I believe JMM started his career at FW, so they never could have went prime for prime.

It's not a fight where you can say for SURE who wins it, but I would lean toward a young MAB.

Junior Jones had a VERY potent right hand, and if he catches them just right nobody's going to take that punch. That fight taught MAB that he can't just attack madly, he has to watch his chin. He was a little gunshy in the rematch trying to outbox JJ and make sure he didn't get caught like that again.

I dont agree with you Bernie on your point about MAB having more pop as a featherweight.

Marquez imo was stronger and punched harder than MAB.

......and we're seeing now the pop Marquez has in his punches when he wants to turn into the puncher.....he's emphatically and impressively knocked out strong durable lightweights who had never been knocked out before.

JMM can definitely get his respect and put the hurt on people, but he sacrifices some power for his accuracy. MAB was considered a monster puncher at JFW and didn't lose much at FW, and he could put people on ***** street or get them entirely gone with one shot. JMM gets you with an accumulation. There's a reason they called MAB an assassin.

Barrera wasn't a monster puncher at 122lbs. He was a good puncher.

Besides that, the idea that Marquez is greater than Barrera is ludicrous, and is only an opinion for the hardcore Dinamita fan and the fickle Boxing enthusiast. Give it time.

I really don't know what your problem is, you just love to tag along on any post I make and make tiny little insignificant disagreements, whether you agree with my main point or not. Just **** off. You're irritating. You're a gnat who won't go away on an otherwise sunny, pleasant day at the beach. MAB was definitely considered a murderous puncher at JFW, it's not really up for debate. Break out your career set, watch his early fights and listen to what they say about him.

The idea of JMM being greater than MAB isn't ludicrous, considering JMM's recent achievements, it's just imho wrong.
