Barrera turned professional 4 years prior to Marquez, and was fighting the likes of Mckinney and Morales when Marquez was busy handling the likes of Johnny Walker and Sean Fletcher. Who? Good question. Marquez has mounted a pretty good resume over the space of the last 3 years, but he was the one who had all the work to do. The likes of Barrera and Morales had already sealed her place in history with wins over one another and other quality fighters like Manny Pacquiao, Naseem Hamed, and Kennedy Mckinney.

Only when Marquez gets himself a signature win or a title at 140lbs could I entertain the idea of him being ranked above those two.

What fight were you watching ? That may have been Marquez's best rd but Barrera was beating JMM up until that point .I really would love to see some people's score card for this fight ..JMM's fans act like this was a Juan Diaz performance when it wasn't ..Had it not been for the point deduction it could of been declared a draw at worst ..

just watched it again and scored it for the first time. i scored it 115-112 for marquez. i counted the knock down. round 7 was 9-9 for me. marquez instigated the action throughout. he kept coming forward and landed the better punches. beautiful combination punching. it was close and i wouldbt disagree with someone having a tighter scorecard, but marquez clearly won in my opinion.
