I'm not a big subscriber of the whole "Manny was more well rounded" theory. His best performance was arguably in the Marquez rematch in terms of "putting it all together".

I actually scored that fight for Manny.

Marquez is a stone cold great fighter! He gets 100% of my respect! Yes, he's definitely a Mexi-ATG.

What about Edmundo Esparza beating Harada on points in Japan?

In terms of wins and accomplishments, JMM has a case for being ranked among the top 3 Mexicans in my estimation.

    That sounds like fair comment
What about Morales win over Pac? The same Pac who had just beaten Barrera and drawn with Marquez.

Those four may have been better fighters than Marquez, Chavez and Olivares almost certainly were, but I think JMM compares favourably in terms of victories and accomplishments. You look at top tier wins, longevity, success through a multitude of different weight classes, and it's hard to argue that JMM doesn't at least deserve to be in the discussion.

With respect to Marquez what are his top tier wins though?

Barrera...who was mainly a name by that point, Pacquiao, Casamayor, Diaz?

Don't get me wrong, I've always been someone who's questioned the quality of JMM's win column, but I think after he knocked out Manny Pacquao in 6 rounds he finally claimed that top tier win to go along with a whole host of other good wins. Wins against such men as Barrera, Diaz, Gainer, Medina, Katsidis, etc. Things also get complicated once trying to assess all of JMM's controversial, debatable decisions. How many victories does he really have over Manny Pacquiao? Did he lose to Norwood and John? The debate rages on.

No one won the Norwood fight. I've watched that fight more times than I'd like to mention.

A touch maybe. Depends on how big of a W you thought Manny beating Barrera right after was. Are the wins that big?

Think, this was like a decade after his war with McKinney. Marco had A LOT of wear on him through all the wars.

Yes, top ten Mex ATG on anyone's list, JCC above him though.

Me too. JMM is Great IMO, a true boxing master, but I don't think people should get carried away with that one night when Pacquaeo's head was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't want to call it a lucky punch, but I don't have another name for it at this moment.

Luck is merely preparation meeting opportunity.
