I rated Nishioka pretty high too, but his performance vs a shot Rafa Marquez made me question his abilities and how good he really was and turned out wasn't as good as he thought he was. And THAT was supposed to be Nonito's greatest challenge or win that year, respectfully. I thought maybe Nishioka was a hot and cold fighter, maybe just a bad night vs Rafa, but turned out he was aging pretty bad and showing his age. Rafa wasn't supposed to be competitive vs Nishioka yet he was a handful. And Nishioka almost looked shot vs Nonito. Couldnt pull the trigger. Not that I wanted him to win, but it was horrible. I know Nonito will do great 2013, but 2012 is a no brainer for Jmm.
Respect. I agree with you, but to a lesser extent. I didn't think he looked bad against Rafa. I mean, maybe Rafa's a good gauge, because he gave JML more trouble and that turned out to be a sign of things to come. While Nishioka did look real shitty against Donaire, I don't think that's really fair to gauge the merit of the W. Otherwise I could counter to try to discredit JMM's win over Pac by saying Pac aged overnight and looked shitty against JMM lunging all night with no abandon and getting dropped in the third by a shot he would have never been hit by or at least dropped by earlier in his career. I don't feel that way, but it's somewhat legit of an argument to make. I know Montiel went on to look less than stellar, so this might be a bad example, but does Donaire's KO of Montiel lessen it because it happened so quick that Fernando barely had a chance to show he had anything that night? Same with Pacquiao/Hatton. Hey, I said right away and have said for over a month now that I've got no problems with JMM winning FOTY, I don't think it's decisive at all. I gave his fight (the other) FOTY, KOTY, and ROTY. It's without question the best single win of the year, and the best in probably many years so no complaints over that leading to Fighter of the Year.
I don't think there should be any other choice really. The cover says it all. Donaire, as badass as he might've been last year, is, but a distant second for me.
No doubt. Donaire beat people he was supposed to beat. Nonito was heavily favored in each of his fights. JMM, at ~FORTY, beat all odds and KTFO PEDcquiao.
Picked it up last week thought the cover was dope aswell....only thing ridiculous is that its the MARCH edition, it came out in JANUARY...and only has things from DECEMBER...wtf
