Guys, if you google 2012 Ring Magazine fighter of the year, it comes up Nonito Donaire! It looks like Ring Magazine decided Donaire would not sell copies of their magazine at the newstands, so they went with that epic shot of Marquez in all his glory. If you read the small print on the cover it say's, "Juan Manuel Marquez scores knockout for the ages." Marquez-Pacquiao was voted fight of the year or KO of the year. :think This content is protected We've all been duped! What we have here is creative advertising to sell a magazine! :fire Thats to bad, Marquez more than deserved to be named fighter of the year after all he's accomplished through an entire career and then culminated with a brutal knockout over Manny Pacquiao!
I'm not sure if marketing wins over Marquez in this one. The same second the fight ended and I fully expected it to win any(if not all) of the following: Fighter of the year, fight of the year, KO of the year and upset of the year. No one saw this coming by a long damn shot nor did anyone expect it to be the most explosive of all tactical fights.
:think I remember flipping through it and I think there was 3 mentions of Marquez-Pac 4 which was Fight of the year, KO of the year, and Im pretty sure the Fighter of year had Marquez. I do remember before that issue came out, word was that they had given it to Donaire, which had him as a runner up in the magazine. I'm just glad they went with the right choice and put an awesome cover.
Hmmmmm, anyone here have the magazine and can look to see who the fighter of the year is? Wikpedia say's that Ring Magazine's fighter of the year is Nonito Donaire.
no, marquez is ring fighter of the year http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/177037-the-ring-magazine-march-issue-at-a-glance donaire won the fan poll at the end of the year. that's not the actual award. ring named marquez fighter of the year. proof is in the link above.
I think you're right, I just checked a different wikpedia page and its listing Marquez as Ring Magazine fighter of the year. Great news for boxing! :happy:bbb
I picked Marquez by UD or late TKO(feel free to dig up IntentionalButt's RBR thread for proof) but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine an outcome like this. From the opening bell it was all shocking to me; from Pacquiao's head movement, his knockdown, almost having the fight sealed in the 5th all the way to the shocking one punch KO. I don't think anyone would have expected it to end the way it did.
yeah, the ring are the ones to blame for all the confusion. at the beginning of this year they held their fan poll for fighter of the year and donaire won but the story was titled "donaire named ring fighter of the year." here's the link. http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/176643-nonito-donaire-is-voted-fighter-of-the-year-for-2012 i was glad there was a split in foty awards. i thought donaire and marquez were both worthy. donaire won the bwaa and marquez wins the ring. huge accomplishments for both fighters.
Donaire deserved it more I think. JMM UD win over Fedchenko TKO win over Pacquiao Donaire SD win over Vazquez Jr UD win over Mathebula TKO win over Nishioka KO win over Arce 4 fights.
All 4 of those fights dont equal Marquez' brutal KO of Manny Pacquiao. A fighters past history outside of 2012 also is taken into consideration. The 3rd fight with Pacquiao was'nt in 2012, but for all intents and purposes, Marquez really beat Pacquiao twice within a span of 13 months. I'm not saying Nonito's 4 wins are'nt good one's but none of those opponents are anywhere within sniffing distance of one named Manny Pacquiao!
**** off with that ****. Donaire should win hands down. You forget he brutally KO'd Arce. Plus there is huge debate over Marquez and his thought to be steriod use.
You **** off with your **** Brutally KOd the heavily favoured prime Arce? Huge debate caused by who? Jealous *******s who refuse to believe what transpired Marquez scores one of the biggest most shocking KOs any of us have ever seen. He's a lock for FOTY
I would vote for Donaire. Marque's win over Pacquiao may be the win of the year, but I like Donaire's over all body of work better.
