What would Cortez have done if he was looking? The round had restarted.

Cortez lost control and Floyd, aware of this, took advantage.

Cortez did restart the fight then he started talking to someone outside of the ring (timekeeper, I presume). Any ref worth his latex gloves would have addressed the timekeeper before restarting the fight or separated the fighters while he addressed the timekeeper.

Floyd had the presence of mind to see Cortez was ****ing up and he took advantage. It was an absolutely shitty thing to do but well within the rules. Much like "letter of the law vs. spirit of the law" in legal debate, Floyd was within the letter of the rules but far from the spirit (intent) of the rules.

Nothing, but Ortiz would have known the fight was back on. Despite that, Ortiz SHOULD have known, but Cortez shouldn't have been so ambiguous.

He was looking at Mayweather when he got hit with that left hand. He didn't even know Cortez wasn't looking.

Yes, that is the ONLY reason he is mad. There could possibly no legit reason to have a gripe about the way the fight ended.

Then what was Cortez looking at when Mayweather threw the first punch? I thought the referee should be watching the fighters at all times the clock is running?

Technically it can be said the round started because on videotape we can see Cortez half asses and confused make a semi barely dicernable gesture for the fight to resume, but then he turns away from the fighters, and Cortez' reaction with his jaw dropped after he see's Mayweather landing that right hand bomb that dropped Ortiz is a reaction from a ref that was'nt expecting action to have resumed......

......in fact look at the tape again...even after Cortez half assed gesture for the fight to resume, even Mayweather knows that Cortez has'nt properly initiated resuming of the action because just like Ortiz, he walks toward his opponent with his hands fully down again.

Mayweather walking toward Ortiz in the fashion that he did was signaling to Ortiz he was accepting of another handshake and hug before the fight resumed, but instead, Mayweather lulls Ortiz into thinking he's up close there to makeup, and then quickly and unproffesionally breaks out and sucker punches Ortiz.

The video evidence clearly points to wrong doing by Joe Cortez, but that Mayweather knowingly took advantage of the situation and deliberately sucker punched Ortiz is clear as day for anyone to see.

Cortez had control of the fight, when will people realize that he signaled the fight back on and it was Ortiz and Ortiz alone who tried to hug and kiss
